  • Gamerz Tek has scratched the gaming nostalgia itch.
This is a nice trip down memory lane. I had received a SNES for Christmas of '91, which after all these years had proved to be my favorite console. Recently, I have been really put off by a lot of the modern games. They just seemed to be more flash than substance. With the retro gaming scene exploding recently, I dug out an old box that still contained several of my old SNES carts. The urge to play them again proved overwhelming, and decided to check local pre-owned game stores. All SNES consoles were too expensive, and I felt let down. Imagine my surprise when I pulled up youtube, and found a youtuber by the screen name of Gamester81 who reviewed a generically named 'New 16-bit Entertainment System' on his channel. I watched, and was quite impressed by his overview of this particular clone console. I decided that since it was only about 40 bucks, I would give it a shot. Well, I received it a few days ago, and I hooked everything up to my TV. Since I have an HDMI only TV, I had to use a special adapter that would covert AV signals to HDMI. It is a little kludgy, but it works out very well. I am REALLY impressed by this machine. It helps stroke the nostalgia with its looks, and the audio and video is quite clean. I know that the graphics may appear a little darker than how they appeared on the original SNES, but it is quite livable. The audio really surprised me, as it was actually quite punchy. I have had a bit of experience with using several of the clone consoles that are out, and this one is DEFINITELY one of the best I have used. The contents of the box are really nothing big: The 16-bit clone console, AC adapter, AV cables, S-Video cables (nice touch), and two SNES-style controllers. I have been impressed with the quality of the build for the machine and its controllers. They really feel like they came from Nintendo. The cross pads are nice and tight, and the buttons all worked just fine. The AV cables and S-Video cables were standard fare, nothing worse or better than any that are bought at the store. The AC adapter seems a bit smaller than I remember the original SNES one was, which is handy in my power strip. The console itself is definitely neat, as it feels and looks a lot like what the original SNES did. The buttons for Power and Reset are now just push in, instead of slide forward, but that is quite fine with how the machine works. Game compatibility: Here is where I am afraid I am not as helpful as I could be. I only have seven SNES carts still, though I played them all just fine: Axelay, Super CastleVania 4, Gradius 3, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Mortal Kombat 2, Super Metroid, and UN Squadron. I plan on getting more carts again for my collection, (natch) but that will take time, unfortunately. Depending on what happens in the next several months, may expand this list with some new ones added. In summary: This machine I definitely find to really be worth the money. I have heard that there are some carts that are incompatible with it, like Street Fighter Alpha 2, and Super Mario RPG. Since I don't own them, obviously I can't vouch one way or the other. I know that it feels great to be able to play my old games again, and I love going down nostalgia lane with them. I definitely recommend this console to those whom wish to play those wonderful old SNES games again. I thank Gamerz Tek for creating this machine, and a big shoutout of thanks to Gamester81 on youtube for doing your review of the machine. Peace out, all, and happy gaming! ... show more

  • Gamerz Tek for the win!
I received this console yesterday, and promptly began putting it through the compatibility test. I was blown away to discover it could play any cart I could throw at it! It played all the carts that other clones have difficulty with, including Street Fighter Alpha 2, Star Fox, Super Mario Rpg to name a few, and also fired right away on some of my repro carts. The system is just a joy to behold as well, love the SNES similar design, and the lightweight of the unit. The controllers are also great that come bundled with this system. I've tried a lot of the controllers from after market game consoles, such as retro bit and yobo. These are by far and away the best, and more importantly, reliable that I've tried yet. Many of the aforementioned brands just are so unresponsive, and something as simple as throwing a Hadoken, or harder still, a Shoryuken is just....well, its just not happening on the after market stuff, at least, not reliably. But, The Gamerztek controllers were so reliable, I landed every special move attempted on SFA2 on the first attempt, getting my shoto on, hell yeah! The button depresses felt really nice too. I've seen others knock on a snappy button press, but I for one prefer it, and if we could just go back to the days we opened our first SNES, or NES...I'm sure they had the same bite new outta the box. Gotta break em in, folks. But that's half the fun, and it doesn't take long to get them out of the initial stiffness. Also, I'd like to mention; its a small thing, but the blue led light on the front that comes on when the unit is powered on is a nice touch, makes it feel, well, it makes it feel like someone gave a hoot about the presentation of this console. And, was a pleasure to have the pack in S-Video cable included, for when you wanna overclock those 16 bit gems. I cannot recommend this thing enough and with any luck, this thing will provide many years of service. Gamerz Tek is the way to go. ... show more

  • Has problems.
i was excited to get a system to play my old SNES games. I was impressed at how careful the console and accessories were packed. My excitement ended when I put a game into the console and the game did not work. I tried the reset button because the console arrived with the power turned on. Resetting the console did not work so I tried to turn the power off but pressing the power button did not turn the power off. I then decided to remove the game from the console only to find that there was nothing to push on the console to easily remove the game from the console (the original SNES console has a section to push to remove games). I had a very hard time removing the game from the console but I had to remove and reinstall the game several times before the game worked. I decided to return the console to get a refund. After requesting a refund I received an email with a return address that requires me to pay return postage for the system. Beware if you buy this unit you will lose money because the return postage is paid by the purchaser. ... show more
