  • Beautiful decorative mini xylophone that actually plays - great price
Very pretty was my 1st thought. Originally purchased because my 11yr son is a beginner percussionist & he’s been learning marimbas so I thought this would be good for him to just practice. With the price being so low, I bought 2 so he could teach others to play. Once received, these are so small, they can’t be an instrument but more a decorative item. Does produce different sound per key & can be played as such, xylophone or marimba, etc. Could be a great teaching tool, kids toy, practice piece for beginners, or simply a nice decor piece for music lovers or your fav music / band teacher. But do be aware of what you’re buying here. My pic has a ruler to show you the size of the sticks as well as the item. Yes, I’d buy it again. Beautifully designed & crafted. Price is really good for the item. I could see these going for double as a novelty in a music shop. ... show more

  • Looks 👍 sensory 👍 sound ☹️
Sure looks beautiful but the base is so small so it tips over very easily and also the bars are not in tune. The last four sound exactly the same and they don’t sound at all like an instrument. I might as will just be tapping my wooden table. However it is very beautiful and if you tap the sides it makes a very nice percussion instrument. Very hollow and crisp “ Tok tok” sound.. For the price and the purpose I bought it for(A sensory gift for a blind girl) it works, or if you just want it for decor it’s beautiful! ... but if you’re wanting to use it as a real instrument, don’t bother. ... show more

  • Strong construction!
This item came in after going through what I would assume to be package hell. The "box" was delivered to me covered in a plastic bag with a label that said it was received damaged by the post office. I really feared the worst. i opened up the box and though there was plenty of mold on it, the product barely had a scratch! The striking hammers were even fully intact! After a good cleaning with diluted bleach water, I have it resting on my windowsill to dry out after being most for so long. The design are beautiful and this thing is made of some strong and thick wood! The tuning is a bit out, but I am pretty sure it just need to dry a bit. This will be a great centerpiece and I look forward to playing on it for a long while. For 20 dollars, this is an amazing purchase! ... show more

  • Pretty paperweight?
I should have read the reviews before purchasing. It's tiny compared to what I thought it would be. It was delivered in a plastic ENVELOPE, not a box, with about 4 layers of taped bubble wrap around the item. There is no sound distinction between the bars. I can get the same result tapping two wooden spoons together. Incredibly disappointing. I love strange instruments, so I was looking forward to this one. Instead I just feel ripped off. Its ONLY redeeming quality is that it's pretty. What a waste of money! I'm glad I at least waited until the price dropped a bit... ... show more

  • An interesting decorative item but it is not really a serious musical instrument.
Since I have been into numerous musical instruments the last ten plus years (Harmonica, Kazoo, Flutes, Recorders, Irish whistle, various kinds of hand drums, and other percussion instruments) I am always seeking unusual or exotic musical instruments. I recently purchased this decorative 8 bar Xylophone (Thai teak wood, Thai traditional musical instrument) from Amazon for a bargain price. It is really NOT designed for playing and in fact attempting to play it was counterproductive at best; however, it is a beautiful decorative piece that looks great on one of my shelves so everyone can see it when they come into my place. If you are seeking an exotic looking Xylophone produced and sent from Thailand you may want to check out this interesting and unique product. Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. • NOT a playable INSTRUMENT
This has a very dull sound even for a singular note or tab sound. It very cute for a decorative piece or letting the little ones bang on as it has no actual noise / sound. Makes a great decorative piece . Nothing more.

  • Incredibly interesting percussion INSTRUMENT
This is a very beautiful percussion INSTRUMENT. It is truly an instrument. Maybe the word ‘xylophone’ is misleading to some. It is a percussion instrument not a xylophone. If you are looking for a typical rainbow steel ‘xylophone’ then this isn’t the piece for you. If you are seeking a unique percussion instrument to enhance or begin your appreciation for international percussion differences, this is an excellent choice. Makes a perfect gift for a percussion professional, teacher, or enthusiast. Makes a great student/child teaching piece (world cultural instruments, not twinkle twinkle little star), but it is most certainly NOT A TOY. This is something to put somewhere special, use for percussion, and a great conversation piece. The science alone of how the different tones are formed from different sizes and elevation of the wood adds to conversation, learning, and percussion appreciation. The color is beautifully dark and it came wrapped very carefully. ... show more

  • Unique, basic instrument, and a cool piece of decor
Really nice piece, hand carved, and can be used as a basic instrument. Stands approx 6" tall and 10" at the widest top portion. It has a nook below the teak planks to store the xylophone sticks - 2. I was bummed that some reviews knocked it as "not a real instrument". You can play the basic notes which sound better than I expected for the cost. The best feature - virtually everyone picks it up to play it! ... show more
