I hate buying umbrellas. They always feel flimsy, are too small, or are too large when collapsed to carry well. This is the first umbrella I've been excited to use. The metal arms to hold the canopy open are obviously better quality to the naked eye. The canopy fabric feels thicker and is secured to multiple locations on the metal arms which should help reduce the wear and tear on the pockets at the end of the canopy where the arms insert. When collapsed, it's small enough to store in the car easily or even in the side pocket of a backpack (like I do). When opened, it's sufficiently large to cover my broad shoulders, backpack, and legs as I walk (despite having the long stride of someone who is over 6 feet tall). Although I did purchase this item, I'm writing the review for one that I never received. That is, I ordered a red, a blue, and a green, but got two greens instead of the blue. That quibble aside, they're nice umbrellas. I've had the opportunity to use them in moderate rain and they did their job. I've only encountered a few moderate gusts of wind so I can't say how well the vent will function with the driving storms that have played havoc with other umbrellas. They certainly can't do any worse. Even though they're somewhat longer than a standard compact when closed, they're still much shorter that the full-size types. This means I'm much more likely to have an umbrella with me when I need it. And the larger diameter means I stay significantly drier. Those compacts are just too inadequate. It doesn't help to have an umbrella if it doesn't provide decent coverage. With my compact, I often got a bit wet even up to my waist. The G4 kept my legs reasonably dry. They could have shaved an inch or two off the length by making the handle the same size as a compact. The full-size handle isn't really necessary, though it does have a comfortable feel so I'm not complaining; just mentioning it. The only real complaint I have isn't about the umbrella itself but the slip-cover. It takes a bit of work to slide the cover over the umbrella. Once it's on, it does keep the package nice and slim, which is obviously why they chose to do it this way. Even so, I'd rather have the covered umbrella be a little thicker because you're not going to have a thinner package if it's too much of a pain to put the cover on. In the end, it has more advantages and fewer shortcomings than any other umbrella I've had. My full-size umbrella and my two compacts are all going to Goodwill. ... show more

As stated, this umbrella is large and sturdy. But, when closed and collapsed it is a fairly smaller size. The umbrella deploys, and closes very easily. I am considering purchasing another one in a different color.

This umbrella works well - decent size and the push button up extend it works fine, though you do have to be careful not to hit it accidentally as the umbrella will extend quickly whichever way you are pointing it.

One of the plastic hinges snapped off less than four months after purchase with infrequent use. Before it broke, it was a light, inexpensive umbrella with wide coverage. No leaks and the open button worked every time. I don't believe this part to be repairable or replaceable, but I'll be looking to make contact with G4Free to find out. Don't know if I'll go with this brand again, unless their customer service is exemplary. ... show more
