I can NOT handle smells. I want my house to smell like nothing. I cut a small corner on the film you're supposed to take off so only a little scent gets out at a time. When used this way, I'm very happy with the light scent. I think it works. I've bought several and will buy more.

    • Dead skunk abatement

A skunk died in our subfloor. Then it rotted. Then it's scent gland rotted and permeated the whole house with the fragrance of a 1000 skunks at once. The smell abatement has been horrendous. Inevitably after about a week - we figured out where in the subfloor it was (after cutting a few holes into the subfloor from the crawlspace.) Skunk removed. (Full gasmask necessary.) Then the insulation was removed. Then virucide applied and then a odor absorbing fogger. Ran fans indoors and in the crawlspace 24/7 for weeks. I mean WEEKS. It was still lingering because I'm pretty sure the skunks chemicals seeped into the porous wood and walls in the area of the house where it died. Here's my pretty positive review for this product: once the animal was removed this product was the most helpful in removing the lingering whiffs of skunk that would seep up into the house. However, to note - YOU MUST HAVE CIRCULATING AIR moving over the gel. It doesn't work effectively if it's just sitting there - we have a fan on low circulating over the pots of the odor absorbers and that is what is actively helping to mitigate the smell. The downstairs closet is the worst and I have six of these on the floor in there with a fan on low running 24/7. Even when I open the closet door (we've taken everything out of this closet too aside from the fan and the odor absorbers at this point), if the fan has been running over the air fresheners, I can't smell the skunk. If I leave the fan off for 24 hours, the skunk smell, which is definitely still releasing chemicals from where the smell seeped into, the skunk smell re-pugnifies the closet despite the odor absorbers. So yes, these work great, if and only if you have air circulating over them so their odor absorbing molecules can move around and bond with the skunk smell molecules to neutralize them. I find the smell of the product to be fine - I'd prefer no smell - but my comparison is the smell of 10,000 burning rubber tires over rotting flesh, so.... this is great. I hope this never happens to you. But if it does, remove and replace everything you can, then run fans (and keep all your windows open, we also do this) for forever and buy a lot of these to help mitigate the smell. I'm hopeful we're nearing the end of this plight, it is much better than it was six weeks ago but has required a ton of work (and $$$). May the force be with you. ... show more

For my thoughts on the product skip further down, but while it's a good product I probably won't buy this from Amazon again. Reason being they do not know how to ship it, even though I believe they know it is a risky product to ship. The crux is that the gel has a very weak, thin plastic casing. Said casing broke during shipping, spreading all the lovely wet gel everywhere within the box. The other items came bagged, which wasn't true for them in the past, so I suspect Amazon has had to reship the gel in the past due to its fragility...Although why they don't just bag the one thing that could spread everywhere makes no sense to me. Regardless of theories, Amazon does not know how to ship the product. If they ship the same way with anything delicate that isn't in a bag then the items will be ruined. Good news is that I could scrape much of the gel back into the flimsy home it is intended to dwell in, and can review the product itself w/o too much loss from my purchase. And the gel itself is good. Within a few hours the room with two litter boxes had lost the vague 'cattiness' that was floating around. I didn't want the lavender option, and the original had a pleasant odor that quickly dissipated. My two cats do occasionally participate in poop wars (leaving presents unburied in the other one's box, demanding retaliation and escalation) so the ultimate test is yet to be passed. That said I do appreciate what the gel has contributed so far. If I can find it elsewhere I'd purchase again. ... show more

I don’t usually write reviews but I had to for this product. It 100% worked and I am blown away by the results! I live in an apartment, and if you ever lived in an apartment, you know that sometimes… Smells… can linger into your home. There was an extremely unpleasant smell (the best way I can describe. It was the dirtiest litter box in the history of humanity) lingering into my home. I couldn’t stand it, so I took a chance and bought what I felt to be the best overall reviewed odor absorbing gel product. I placed the product in my laundry room, as that was where the smell seem to be permeating from. The next morning, the smell was completely gone! And its place was the wonderful smell of this product. I can’t speak to how this would work in a large space, but for a small space this absolutely works and is a must have if you are dealing with odors entering your home. ... show more

Scent and smell are a very individual thing. Everyone will perceive them differently, and I can understand why this product may not work for some people. This is an odor absorber with minimal scent, not an air freshener like a glade plug-in that will permeate a room with a strong fragrance. I recently moved into my boyfriend’s house and he is nose blind to the smell of the liter boxes. Adding a third litter box for the addition of my cat wasn’t going to help. The smell would punch me as soon as I walked up to the second floor, even with daily cleanings (the boxes themselves were cleaned too). I decided to take a chance on this product and I am glad I did. I was skeptical since the reviews either love it or hate it. For me, the fresh scent is not noticeable unless I put my nose to the container, it doesn’t bother my boyfriend who is sensitive to fragrances in candles and air fresheners, and I can no longer smell the litter box odor that was permeating the second floor of the house.
