These are great snake gaiters IMO and I know they work. Two weeks ago while metal detecting I ran into a Mohave that tagged my calf. I felt the hard hit but no fangs got through. I think it was a dry bite since I did not see venom run down gaiter. I own several diffrent style snake gaiter leggings and these Frelaxy Snake Gaiters are my go to leggings. They have excellent features that make it easy to put on correctly and stay in place. Features include: velcro alignment, buckle foot and heel straps to keep tongue guard in place and keeps the gaiters from riding up leg or twisting. The poly plates that wrap calf are positioned so the the left overlaps with right covering weakspots between plates. I use these while working and prospecting in desert or woody areas known for snakes. Every year I run into Rattlers, cotton mouths, and copper heads.

As soon as I put them on the snaps ripped off. Instead of returning them I took them to my seamstress and she sewed on heavy duty ones. Easy fix.. not expensive. Just an inconvenience for a stronger material. They are comfortable and an extra precaution when in the desert.

Great idea, but definitely needs some serious design efforts with ergonomics, and extensive testing. First of all, the shield plate on the front should be curved inwards (concaved) to fit human leg. First weekend of trying (running trails and off-trails) brough me back home with blisters, as the plates both- the shin and the foot flap stubbed into the front ankle area just above the shoe. We are in AZ, which means summer year around. I need snake and cactus shields, but being always in shorts and running shoes, i have to drop those gaiters straight on the bare skin. Having multiple over-lapped plates instead of a single shield/plate, similar to the standard issue plate carrier, would help Another area of improvement: the under-foot straps are in the wrong places. Straight across causes the loop off the heel, and cris-cross causes shifts and displacement of the entire gaiter. Maybe using toe loop similar to the non-slip skins for ski boots, would help to hold the flap, and the gaiter, in place. Lastly, the straps ends are all over, flapping around. Again, research of military grade gear would help to harness those sloppy ends.

I bought this product after a long search for snake gaiters that provided the best coverage. For those of you out there who have been eying the top-of-the-foot flap, It definitely covers most of my foot! The flaps that wrap around your leg also have an overlap area that provides thicker protection. I also got these to double as shin armor for airsoft. I gave these a good look-over, and i especially took a look at all the stitching. the stitching looked and felt durable. and for those of you who are DIYers, it would be a pretty easy fix if a seam did come out due to wear. another thing that i looked at was the straps that go across the pad of your shoe. They feel durable, but there is no way to avoid them wearing out. They did have on feature that I overlooked: they have velcro on the inside! I have seen many different types of velcro, and these felt like they are a heavier-duty type. when I put them on, they felt really sturdy. they were relatively easy to put on-just two velcro strips, two straps to clip in, and the two buckles on the bottom. they are extremely adjustable, and fit on my small calves no problem. I definitely would recommend these for teens and older though. they are very comfortable, while only hindering the kneeling down a tiny bit. I'm sure that with time, it is possible to break them in to be more comfortable. These are a great value for your money, and while I hope they never get tested by a snake, I am confident that they would stop the snake bite.
