  • Not exactly what I was looking for.
My wife is from Thailand and she uses the device to check to see if her spelling is correct. We were hoping this device would give possible words as you were typing each letter (like most word processors) but it does not. Her spelling is very bad. If she knew how to spell the word, she would not need the thesaurus/dictionary. It only will confirm if her guess was correct. Had I known this was the case, I would not have bought it but searched for something else. It is a little better than nothing. She also uses an Apple phone that she can talk into and get spellings but her accent is so strong, it rarely understands her. It is OK but not what I was hoping for. ... show more

  • This is a gift
I bought this product as a gift so I haven't opened it myself to check. The packaging says that this is perfectly suitable for middle-schoolers, which worries me as the person that I plan to gift it to is nowhere near that age and a very avid reader of intellectual material. I probably did not read the description well, but I hope it serves it's purpose of being a good dictionary. I wish there was something in the market in this price range for adults, that solely catered to being a solid dictionary and thesaurus minus the games and other frills. Everything that looked remotely like that was $100+ ! ... show more

  • Pricing Issue
How can what I paid less than $20 for 3 years ago now cost $178?? It is an excellent product. I was using it as a 'graduation' gift for my tutees that finished the Wilson or Barton programs for students with dyslexia. Now it is priced out of my budget range. How disheartening. Former students use it so successfully. At first I was able to pick up used ones, but even those are priced over $100 and are pre 2013. Sad, sad, sad. Certified Wilson Trainer. ... show more

  • Disappointed
The dictionary came sealed, brand new and worked maybe for about a dozen words, then quit. We replaced the batteries and it won't even turn on. Customer service was helpful in how to file a return to Franklin, and they said they would replace it, but still disappointed at having to pay shipping on a defective product that was bought in good faith. Fingers crossed the replacement works (must be an issue with the model ~ as soon as I said which one it was, there was an immediate "we'll replace it"). Have bought other good Franklin products but not too impressed with this one. ... show more

  • Definitions leaves you still wondering what the word mean!
Sorry but this is limited on definitions and limited on description which leaves a child still wondering what a word means. Whenever I tell a young child about a word they don't know guess what I say. I say look it up using this this franklin dictionary and in the end they are still confused. They show it to me on what it describes as the definition and I can see why they are still confused. The definition are short and incomplete sentences. ... show more

  • Easy to Use
The device is compact and user friendly. I bought it for my 9 yr old to help with his vocabulary assignments. Instead of flipping through a dictionary or accessing a word on the computer we can just flip open the electronic dictionary. Homework is done much faster!

  • YOU DO WITH WHAT YOU HAFTA DO
Works fine but it does not know all the words. The lid is next to impossible to open. I use electrical tape to make a handle on this and on my Wife's laptop.

  • Excellent gadget
I book this electronic device as part of my teaching tools to use when I am at the classroom. I am an Engish teacher, so I need to have a dictionary that it really works it out for me! It is easy to use, and I can find all those difficult words I need to define for my students. The electronic dictionary completes my printed dictionary; and students must need to know that as ESL/EFL students must have a good one. EXCELLENT choice! ... show more
