I recently used the Forney 30705 E7018 Welding Rods for a few of my DIY projects, and they’ve quickly become a staple in my workshop. These 3/32-inch rods in the 5-pound pack have proven to be incredibly reliable and efficient. The first thing that struck me was the ease of striking and maintaining an arc. Even for someone who doesn’t weld every day, these rods make the process smooth and hassle-free. I’ve tackled a range of projects, from fixing a broken trailer hitch to fabricating custom brackets, and these rods have consistently delivered strong, clean welds. One aspect I appreciate is the low spatter. It makes for much cleaner work, reducing the amount of cleanup needed afterward. Plus, the slag is easy to chip off, which saves me time and effort. I did notice that they run a bit hot, so adjusting the amperage was necessary to get the best results. Once I dialed in the right settings, the performance was stellar. These rods handle well in various positions, which is a huge plus for any DIYer working on different types of joints and angles. I try to stay away from forney products, not because they're bad but just because they're average quality and price. Paid $21.43 for 3/32 5 pound box. Not great but didn't want to spend more for bulk of another brand right now. Usually my local supplier is cheapest and they carry excalibur, which is great, but they didn't have 3/32. So product came in a plastic box that was wrapped with plastic. I used rod on rusty exhaust muffler and new 16 guage tube. I cleaned up the weld area much better than I usually would have. arc was good. any sticking was my fault. good 7018 bead on 400 series stainless. Did another rusty pipe a week later and had no problem with the rod like others were saying. I don't preheat rod, just store them in a cool aluminum box that has a weather seal. It'll work like any average 7018 rod, it isn;t the best rod i've ever used, but its pretty much like any rod you'll find at a box store. ... show more

The rods are okay. I've had no trouble welding with them in flat or horizontal positions. For some reason when I try to weld overhead into a 45 degree joint the flux continuously comes off, and I can't get a good weld in. When I used my lincoln excalibur 3/32 7018 I had no problems. I'm still not sure if this is user error as i'm an amateur welder. If you want high quality rods, I would stay away from these. ... show more
