High School Band Director here and we LOVEEEEE the NUVO flute collection!!!! We had about 7 or 8 of the older model in our band, and they truly have such a great sound. This new NUVOBand version is a great upgrade and has definite improvements over the pervious version. Pros - Excellent sound for high school beginner/intermediate students. The price is great for the quality of the instrument! In all the years we have had NUVO flutes, we only had a few minor problems (like with the bumps on the end of the footjoint wearing off of the old version), but absolutely nothing with pads or alignment and the high school kids play every single day. Speaking of which, the footjoints have been redesigned so there is no more puzzle piece connection. LOVE that it is waterproof so the marching band can use it in any kind of weather. We have done quite a few rainy/misting events and it was such a relief to not have to worry about anything getting damaged. This new one is super lightweight and looks extremely sleek. Also very cool that it was upgraded to have some metal parts to make it more of a hybrid instrument instead of only plastic. Comes with a very cute wall hanger, with the idea of if your instrument is out and more easily accessible, you will play it more. I think this is a great idea and proven to be true, but doesn't really apply to the school setting. If it was an instrument for independent personal use it would be a lot more useful. Cons - Even though the design of the footjoint changed, it is a little bit difficult to maneuver in and out of the body of the flute. We found that a bit of cork grease is helpful, but also had to source it first because they took it out of the packaging. Would love to see a silver model in the future! Right now the only color is black. (but still looks gorgeous!) If you are on the fence, I would totally 100% go for this flute. It has a great sound and is so light the students love playing it. NUVO's customer service is also amazing, and they have a fantastic warranty. Their reusing program sounds like a great idea also, but we are hanging on to ours for a looong time. Considering the cost of repadding and realigning a metal flute, this one holds up significantly longer with no need for special maintenance. NUVO instruments have always been a pleasure to have in our band! Go get one!! :)

I teach band and NUVO sent me a week trial of their Flute. For a what it is and is meant to be it was surprisingly good. I had my high school flute and beginner flute players try out the flute for a week and they all reported surprise to just how good a "plastic" flute was. While the tone tends to be a little airy, it is essentially a completely water-proof and light weight flute that is a great alternative for those who can't afford to rent or buy a metal flute. Given some "Walmart brand" flutes parents seem to like to buy, I would encourage those in a financially tight spot to spend a little more money for this flute. It is perfect for beginners/intermediate players or someone who wants to pick flute back up without a large investment. It is a really great bang for its buck and I highly recommend it as a quality alternative for beginners when money is tight. It really is a fantastic option.

This is a FANTASTIC flute for beginner and intermediate students. Durable, and plays quite comparably to a metal flute. It being waterproof and lightweight is also a plus. Use the KIO (Keep It Out) stand to have it always at the ready for an enjoyable practice session!

As a flute teacher of 25 years, I can't say enough good things about this company and their flutes! They have solved one of the most frustrating problems for not only flute teachers but beginner flute student families. They have created a line of flutes that are affordable, reliable, portable, indestructible and have a good sound. Their flutes can also be easily sanitized. I had the privilege of trying out their newest product, the Nuvo-Band Flute and it's their best yet! This flute is dynamic and resembles more of the feel and size of a silver flute, comes in a compact case, and has a great sound. Band teachers this is definitely your flute solution. Finally, we can do away with all of the expensive repair and maintenance costs of keeping up with cheaply made silver flutes that cost most than the flutes themselves. Thank you Nuvo!
