I had a 5-year old toilet which had ghost flushes, usually a couple of hours apart, between which there would be be dripping sounds and those of small amounts of water flowing from tank to the bowl. After a bit of research on google, I learned problem was likely with this sealing ring, which apparently bubbles a bit, along small amounts of water to pass from the tank. A little more research told me how to remove the flush valve and replace this ring - it was quick and easy and all noises/ ghost flushes stopped. A good, very cheap fix. Recommended!!' PS Not a big deal, but I didn't have a nut on the top of the flush valve - rather the valve itself screwed onto the rid below - small complication.

New toilet seal wasn’t fully tightened. Toilet would slowly leak and refill the tank. Plumber came back and did a leak test with food coloring , bonus. tech tip! He dud put this blue one in and took out the clear that came with the tank. The blue one is holding fine after two weeks. American Standard brand, many youtube videos on issue. I now have spare parts as this design needs replacement often. Not the parts design but American Standard poor design but great flush, just prone to leaking and wasting water and could wear out the fill valve prematurely. So this is really an American Standard toilet review. I bought the toilet at Home Depot.
