  • Good buy for a first time fitness tracker
Color: Steel Blue/Platinum Pattern Name: Fitbit Charge 5
This is my first time using a fitness tracker and I didn't want to spend too much money. For what I want, this tracker works for me. My goal was to track my workouts and calories in and out, everything else is just a nice to have. For the watch, the only issue I have is sometimes not being able to get it to respond when I want to pause an exercise. For the app, there is way more than what I need. I like being able to log my food and being able to scan a barcode is so convenient. In my opinion, the only downside is the limited exercises available...there are only so many to choose from and you aren't able to add more. Otherwise, I think this is a great fitness tracker for a first time user. ... show more

  • I was skeptical but not anymore.
Color: Steel Blue/Platinum Pattern Name: Fitbit Charge 5
I'm nearing 70 years of age and have had some trouble sleeping and know I've been way too sedentary. After reading/watching many reviews of the Charge 5 I hoped that it would provide some insight to my sleeping difficulty and, perhaps, the "Premium" app would add some motivation to be more active. I've now owned and worn my Charge 5 since 5-April and I've been delighted with both the device and the app. At first I did notice that battery life seemed rather short but some brief research online pointed to a solution which worked very well. For your convenience, let the Charge 5 run down to less than 20%, charge it to 100% then do a "Restart" from the "Settings" menu on the device. While doing that I also changed the "Screen Awake" setting to "Manual" (I have to double-tap the screen to see anything) and I have since been averaging 9-10 days between charges. The information it provides about my sleep is quite interesting and informative as are some of the tips for sleeping better provided in the app. The heart-rate monitor and blood-oxygen sensor on the Charge 5 also agrees with the finger-tip monitor I got shortly after the Covid pandemic was declared. Furthermore, while I've had no heart trouble I'm still reassured that I can catch any problem early with the recent update to the heart-rhythm monitor function. I am also pleased that the "Health Metrics" section of the app confirmed my suspicion that I'm pretty fit for an old man despite too many years sitting in front of a computer. As the weather gets warmer I'm sure I'll get even more active and can be confident in seeing quantifiable evidence of the effects. One last thing, I had some trepidation regarding wearing the Charge 5 24/7 since I haven't worn a watch in decades and have never worn any jewelry. The device is very light and it has proved to be of no concern whatsoever. Most of the time I'm not even aware of it on my wrist until I need to set an exercise, see my heart rate or how many steps I've taken, etc. ... show more

  • 14months and you’ll replace it.
Color: Steel Blue/Platinum Pattern Name: Fitbit Charge 5
I loved this thing, much more than I anticipated. The battery life would last for days, it was simple to use—both the watch and the app. I generally used it for sleep tracking, daily steps, checking the time, and as a timer, to be clear. I didn’t use it for checking alerts from my phone. However, I read that they poop out on you not too long after a year. This was certainly the case for me. Great, great, great, dead. One day it, it just decided to be dead. Maybe I’m cheap, but for how much I paid for it, I was hoping for 2 years out of the thing. ... show more

  • Great for me
Color: Steel Blue/Platinum Pattern Name: Fitbit Charge 5
I wanted to wait before reviewing to see how it worked for sleep recording. It’s turned out to be excellent. Measures and analyzes. I really like it and it doesn’t have to be charged every day. It seems to serve a different purpose than my Apple Watch but then I only have a version 3. This was much cheaper than upgrading my Apple just for sleep tracking. So I like this. Actually I love it. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP OR ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY!
Color: Steel Blue/Platinum Pattern Name: Fitbit Charge 5
I upgraded from a Charge 2 because I wanted a waterproof fitness tracker for paddle boarding. Be aware that the FitBit company is stupid, and decided to REMOVE a feature from a NEWER product, so you lose the altimeter, and can no longer see your flights climbed. I dealt with it for the waterproof feature. Well, after less than 1.5 years of normal daily use, it suddenly stopped working. I figured the battery had died because it didn’t consistently give me low battery warnings. (Dumb FitBit!) So I plugged it in, and let it sit for a while. When I checked later, it said 100%. As soon as I unplugged it, the screen went dead again. So I played around with the charger - plugged it into different plugs, cleaned the sensors, made sure it was attached correctly - and the problem continued. At one point (pictured), it showed 1% charged, and then 100% the very next minute. I restarted it multiple times. I left it plugged in overnight, and the next morning when I unplugged it, it immediately went dead again. So I left it plugged in all day. The same thing happened that night. We contacted support, did all they said, and they told us to continue charging and contact again in 20 minutes if it persisted. Well, life happens, so the next day, after 48 hrs of charging, there was no improvement. So I contacted support again, and after 20 minutes of reviewing the ticket, the guy told me we had tried everything, and warranty support would be contacting me. I asked if I could try a factory reset. First he told me it wouldn’t work. When I persisted, he told me there was no way to do a factory reset for my device. Obviously, that was wrong, so I Googled it, and did it. I went through all the steps to charge it and set it all back up . . . and it didn’t work. The same thing happened as soon as I unplugged it. So no, FitBit, I DO NOT want to spend more money on your crappy company, even with a 50% discount. Crap is still crap, even when half off! Clearly, I do NOT recommend this product or this company that won’t stand behind its products! Bye forever, FitBit! ... show more

  • Wouldn't be without one now!
Color: Steel Blue/Platinum Pattern Name: Fitbit Charge 5
This was my 3rd Fitbit Charge 5 over the past few years. The first two were replaced due to damage I caused which had nothing to do with the quality of the device. I can't recommend this item too highly and each one cost less than the one before! It monitors your sleep in amazing fashion and even displays your incoming text messages which is super convenient. A charge almost always lasts me a full week and it charges up in no time. You will not regret purchasing a Fitbit Charge 5. ... show more
