It is unfair of me to judge this pruning tool harshly for weight and ease of handling. I am an 80 yr old female. But I am reasonably active and managed, while bent over, to lop off the bottom foot of branches on 2 growing-tall, 3+ yr old Oak Leaf Hollies that I do not want to spread out on the ground as they grow, creating suckers and many trunks. I also did a similar prune on another shrub, whacked back a rosemary bushy plant and trimmed off low branches on 2 Crepe Myrtles...in 90+ humid heat...working 30 minutes or so at a time. So, this lopper is sharp enough. In my judgement it is a bit heavy, but the hardest use issue is that I had to spread my arms wide in order to open the jaws wide enough to get the jaws around a branch...from 1/2 inch to a full inch or more. The curve of the thin side of the jaw meets the very wide cutter. For branches almost lying on the ground or deep inside a bush, it is quite a trick, upside down, to spread the tool arms and jaws and they apply enough pressure...but I did do it, therefore almost anyone can make good use of this tool. These loppers are fairly light in weight. Yet I can tell that they are sturdy and well made. The blade was sharp upon arrival. I added one drop of oil to each pivot point. It didn’t really need to be oiled. But I like to do stuff like that. It cuts 1 inch branches with ease. Larger branches require more effort. But that’s to be expected. It also depends on what type of tree or bush you are cutting. I am satisfied with this item. ... show more

I really needed good loppers to replace my really old ones that I can't seem to find, after a very snowy winter and a spate of Springtime wind & rain storms not only caused a big-time growth spurt among the foliage in my front & backyard, but had broken, partially-broken and bent, drooping tree branches on nearly ever one of the 12+ trees in my yard. I browsed through the many loppers and various clippers, researching what was available, and checking out reviews. Then, I spotted the Fiskars. I didn't even know Fiskars made garden tools. I was very familiar with the Fiskars brand, however, and I recalled how Fiskars was famous for good quality reliable scissors we used in my youth. I was not disappointed. I was excited when my loppers and hedge clippers arrived. They each came with a partial plastic safety sleeve. That left a good impression. These loppers easily cut pretty good-sized, thick branches. The loppers I selected were designed to cut 1.5" diameter branches. They did a little better, and required little effort to cut even thicker limbs, about 1.75" thick. They were worth every penny, although they were reasonably priced, especially for Fiskars. I'd buy again in a heartbeat and. I'd readily recommend them to anyone looking for any cutting implement. I have been using an older version of these loppers ever since I bought my house 11 years ago. This summer they finally seized up and were virtually impossible to use so I decided it was time to get a new pair. I put these new loppers to work right away cutting limbs between 1.5" to 2" inches thick and it was like a hot knife through butter.
