I bought these to have for two expected grand babies when they visit. These are cute and colorful, with one soft puffy end and one hard end that rattles. They are larger and heavier than I expected for a baby rattle, but they get great reviews and should be fine for a baby who is several months old. Not sure I'd describe them as newborn toys, though. A couple of reviews suggested putting the rattle in a little baby's hands so the soft end is at the top so they don't hit themselves in the face with the hard end. I'm giving them 5 stars although I've not seen them "in action" yet. They are nicely boxed if you're gifting them.

I recently purchased the Fisher Price Newborn Toys Rattle 'N Rock Maracas for my 4-month-old baby, and let me tell you, these things are a hoot! These colorful maracas come in a set of two - one blue and one orange - and are the perfect size for little hands to grasp and shake. First of all, the design of these maracas is just hilarious. They look like a cross between a giant pill capsule and a cartoon character's nose. I couldn't stop giggling when I first pulled them out of the box. But my baby didn't seem to care about the appearance - he was immediately drawn to the bright colors and started shaking them with all his might. One of the best features of these maracas is the soft, squishy material they're made of. They're like little stress balls with jingle bells inside. So not only can my baby shake them for a fun noise, he can also chew on them to his heart's content without hurting his gums. I searched for a simple rattlers to promote babies sensory development and keep them entertained. This product is wonderful. There are two rattlers which are exactly as pictured. It is easy to grab and has vibrant colors. One side is soft and my baby loves to chew it, another side has small beads and little window, so baby can also see the beads while shaking. It doesn’t take up large space and I generally keep one of them in diaper bag.
