This unit is 'meh'. The most difficult part of it is figuring out how to select the games and then how to play them. The instruction book is not very clear, besides telling you what game you might be able to select on it, but it does not walk you through in a step-by-step manner in how to select, play, and work the aspects of gameplay for each game. It's the Asian translated into English instruction manual that skips words and proper grammar, etc., you know what I mean. I gave this to my teens, who, with some time, were able to put things together and actually play on it. The main game is a Mastermind-style game, guessing a sequence, and then receiving answers back on how close your guess was. Harder levels introduce more colors to guess from. There is also a snake game - reminds me of early cell phone days, but it is very basic. Also, two 'color Sudoku' games use 4 or 6 colors instead of numbers in a 4x4 or a 6x6 grid, though in the 6x6 the squares are 6 colors, so it is 2 high and 3 wide. High scores are based on a simple counter each time, and are not saved in any way. There's also a Connect 4 style of game, as well, with the programming against a solo player miserably inept. It more or less places its pieces at random. Two-player I suppose, would work better since you're probably playing against someone with a brain. The LED lights are bright, the buttons are very loud and clicky. At least it has a USB-C charger instead of chewing through your AAA batteries. But then, when that battery goes bad, you're done. So maybe that's not a plus. It could probably function on a watch battery. In all, this game harkens back to the more primitive 80's and early 90's basic handheld games and should be found living in a dollar store, not anything over $2-3 for what it offers.

Here's the thing about this mastermind puzzle, READ the directions. Take the time to thoroughly read and study them. Then start with the easiest level and an easy puzzle that you're possibly familiar with. The instructions show in detail what each button is for. They also go over the different puzzles and levels. You can play beginner, medium, or expert level. These puzzles are not meant to be super easy. They are to challenge your brain and get you to really think. I do sudoku on paper all the time but figuring the 4 color square sudoku and 6 color square sudoku on this handheld gamer took a bit more because of remembering the buttons to push and understanding when it tells you if it's correct or not. There are multiple games to play and thousands of possibilities so you most likely won't play the same puzzle code twice. It's small and travels easily in the car or your bag. It comes with the usb to lightning charger but no wall plug. This decoder would be more for teenagers and up. Unless you have an extremely bright child, I would say 15-16 would be lowest age to really understand and catch on. My 16 year old took this up super easy but she knows gaming and is very smart. I am 42 and it took me a few tries to understand. I however do not game and know technology as well but I did get it and feel this will help my mind continue to work on sharpness, wits, and help my brain stay awake.

I was really excited to try this handheld logic game since I enjoy puzzle and strategy-style challenges. The device itself is compact, portable, and self-contained, which makes it great for quick mental breaks. I also appreciate that it has a rechargeable battery and uses a USB-C port for charging. Definitely a nice modern touch. Unfortunately, the instruction manual really lets this product down. The directions are confusing and poorly formatted, with missing spaces and unclear explanations that make it hard to follow. I believe the manual includes all the information, but the disorganized presentation makes it difficult to understand how to play. On top of that, at the current price, I don’t feel the value is there. I’d be willing to pay at most half the listed cost for what you get. With better documentation and a more reasonable price point, this could have been a great little puzzle game.
