First, the book itself, the actual physical object, is very satisfying to hold and read! Its not real big, but it has some heft and the pages are thicker and the layout and design is just beautiful in my opinion! I really enjoy that aspect of this book. But it is also very well researched and written. Lots of information about Finnish culture around the sauna and wonderful photos to go along with it. And then some really great practical tips and thoughts on how to design and build your own sauna. I should say, this isn't a how to on how to build a specific sauna, but a guide on how to build your sauna. There is very practical stuff on how to properly build your benches and this is how your wall should be constructed. But its not telling you how to build a specific sauna. Really appreciate this book and you will too if you like saunas! ... show more

This book contains a wealth of valuable information on sauna from a bit of history to some in-depth Finnish culture and from health topics to solid details on how to build a sauna. Critically, it is well researched and very accurate unlike too many books on sauna that simply parrot other poorly researched books. Anyone who is building or buying a sauna should study this book. I’m glad I got the physical book. The book itself stands out as a well designed object, really nice paper, binding, typeface, color photos, annotated line drawings, etc. already know plenty about general building construction and have done a lot of homework on sauna design, but as expected this book will still easily pay for itself with pointers about detailing where walls meet ceiling and floor, and benches. ... show more
