  • Outstanding!
Size: BTR7-B-Type C
I've got to say that I am really impressed with this tiny little marvel! It just sounds outstanding! I have owned and enjoyed a Fiio E10-K for several years but it had been serving as a back-up option until recently, when my Audioquest Dragonfly Cobalt disintegrated. It was the second and last of the dongle DAC devices I will ever own. While that one sounded terrific the build quality is absolutely terrible and what happens is that the headphone jack breaks free and falls inside of the casing, leaving it inoperable. Audioquest replaced the first one under warranty but when the second one did the same thing they didn't even respond to my email. It was no longer under warranty I assumed but at least they could have responded to me. It's OK, I just won't support this company any more and have been turning many of my cohorts and fellow audio enthusiast away from their overpriced, fragile products. My cobalt was never abused in any way, it is just not well made. I decided to upgrade my E10K and chose the BTR7 because of the excellent reviews and the respect for the product shown throughout an online audio group of which I participate. This group is over 40,000 strong and there are some real knowledgeable people in it with vast experience with these products. After receiving my new "toy" I had some learning to do as this Fiio isn't exactly plug and play. It took me a little while to figure out how to navigate the tiny buttons and the process itself. I struggled to get it to pair up with my laptop, not because it was terribly difficult, but because I didn't realize that I needed to have the BTR7 connected via the usb-c cable to my laptop at the time I was trying to get it to pair. It wasn't like pairing my phone or my Mark Levinson 5909 headphones. When I realized the err of my ways I felt incredibly dense! Once paired I was ready to have a listen. At this point I have to admit that I have just a few hours of listening time on the BTR7. I have listened to both the 5909 wired, where it really excels, as well as my Sennheiser HD660S2, a wired headphone. The 5909 is an easy to drive headphone but the 660S2 is not at 300 ohms, yet the BTR7 can drive it to plenty loud volume levels with authority. It is absolutely dead silent when no music is present, silent during quiet passages, too. To my ears this tiny piece of kit sounds every bit as good as the $350 Cobalt, and it was just $200. It's far and away better built. If there is anything at all to report on the negative side it would have to be the software. That menu system kind of sucks. But I think once configured it shouldn't be an issue. I managed to figure it out on my own so I can't imagine others not being able to do the same. I can highly recommend the Fiio BTR7 to everybody. I have already started doing so! An excellent choice either out and about or simply away from the desk. ... show more

  • Fantastic sound, bluetooth range and quality. slight QC Issues
Size: BTR7-B-Lightning
I'm writing this review after receiving a replacement unit. I had read a couple of reviews about screen corruption and weird issues. I had these, replaced the unit, and now my new one has fixed every issue! It pairs to the app flawlessly, has crazy bluetooth range, an amazing sound and can drive 95% of whatever you'd want to be mobile (unless you're crazy and want huge cans on your head all the time). I find myself getting lost in music a lot more with this device, it truly is fantastic. The sound is rather neutral to the headphones you use, and VERY clear! As a portable device this thing nearly rivals my Schiit stack! (Bifrost 2 & Lyr 3) This thing is absolutely worth the money. It feels quality and is made of metal and glass, comes with a free case and is very sexy looking. If you have issues like the app not picking it up with bluetooth, a poor connection range, or a battery that dies in like 3 hours, or loud pops when starting music get a replacement. Seriously, even the bad unit sounded fantastic. The menu is simple to use, and you can change some functionality of the devices buttons in the app (android only). This device is truly a godsend in the wireless audio age. ANY true audiophile headphones/earphones will absolutely smoke wireless only audio. I currently run a set of Isine10s on this device, as well as occasionally using a few other headsets like the 1More over ears, or LCD 2's or other IEMs like Westone w80s. I'm leaving this at 4 stars ONLY because of the bad unit I got. There are a few other people that had the same issues I did, they replaced and loved it. So do I. EDIT: I am dropping an edit just to note something from a few weeks of usage. The battery life is fantastic IF you use lower power headphones or keep the volume moderate. If you use really hungry headphones or iems, expect around 3-4 hours of battery life! I don’t see this as an issue given you can charge them out of anything you plug into. I have used a charger that reads how fast it’s charging, and it only pulls up to 3 watts from my usage. The Bluetooth volume selector in the app makes a BIG difference in volume. If you set it up high it’s basically a high gain switch itself. I mainly use this unit wired but the few times I played with the app to build an EQ and played with the BT slider, it made a big difference. Also want to confirm steam deck compatibility! Plug and play with no issues, yay! Just to note, if you equalize your headphones through the app and use this device wired, you have to switch U-Audio to 1.0 mode otherwise it will not EQ. (Steam deck doesn’t have an eq, for those wondering) This device is still great and I use it daily! ... show more

  • Really Nice but not for me.
Size: BTR7-B-Type C
I used the BTR7 on a few media players, phones and laptops, on each one I have found the sound to be good, but I am not keeping it. I have used the BTR7 with several IEM's and a few headphones with no real complainant, outside of that I felt like the sound was heavily compressed. The unit is solid and feels good, not as heavy as I expected. The controls work fine and are very responsive. I thought the app was done very nice and allowed easy access to the options. But at the end of the day, I am not really a bluetooth fan, I truly hear and believe being directly wired in with a good Dac/Amp sounds better, everyday of the week. I can not really kick the BTR7 it is just not the clean sound I was expecting. ... show more

  • Impressive Performance in a Small Package
Size: BTR7-B-Type C
I thought I was familiar with how deep sound could be. Then I paired using this with Sennheiser HD600s, and realized my previous experiences were lackluster in comparison. It took some configuration, but it barely took a minute and now I can see exactly why this is so popular. And for most headphones, this works brilliantly to keep wired performance with wireless flexibility. I can hear the difference with the HD600s when I go wireless, but most consumer headphones will sound near identical to if you were wired in directly. Easily one of my best audio purchases. ... show more
