For the money this desk is awesome. Could it be better? Probably. But for the money it gets extremely high grades. First, the packaging is so protective. Who hasn't had the horror of lugging a big box of unassembled furniture home (or had delivered) only to open it and find some of the pieces smashed or broken? But this has been packaged in a way to really help prevent that. The cardboard box is extremely heavy duty and sturdy and they have placed plastic corner supports to help prevent the dreaded damage that happens to the corners. And on the inside they have further protected the worktop with rubber corner bumpers. I have never had anything so well packaged. The assembly instructions are pretty easy to follow. Each part is CLEARLY labeled with a letter....but not stuck on the actual item but insted on a plastic wrap around the item, so you don't have to struggle to try to remove these stickers. The hardware are all individually packatged and labeled...AND....just in case....they also provide a packet of extra pieces in case you lose one. The instructions are all drawings....no words....so they are very easy to follow but if you have difficulty with those types of instructions you may not like these. Because some reviews had managed the difficulty of flipping the table over if doing this by yourself.......and because I was doing it by myself......I was pretty afraid of breaking the top, which is really 2 separate pieces. So instead I opted to assemble the top right-side-up, instead of upside-down as instructed. It took me a minute to be extra careful to envision which direction to place the top on the legs in that orientation, but it was definitely a lot easier for me to not have to flip the table over. There were many reviews stating that the drawer was not very good and I agreed with them. It was more like a felt storage box and I felt the grey color was not in keeping with the desk that I got (Rustic Brown) so I opted to just not install that drawer and to have a more clean look. The Rustic Brown option was the best option for where I was putting the desk, but as expected, it is the kind of fake wood look that is like a photo of wood that has been laminated on top of some kind of particle boards. I do fear a little that it will scratch but time will tell. For the price I didn't expect anything more. The two boards for the top are held together with 4 wooden pegs and then 3 metal brackets. I used my own glue on the wooden pegs as they were so loose they were basically not doing anything to hold the pieces together. The brackets are a good idea. Even with all those connections, the 2 pieces do not exactly join seamlessly. It's fine but not perfectly perfectly even flat across. If you are looking for this to be a nice piece of furniture in a nice room with other hardwood expensive furniture, then you will be disappointed. But if you know exactly what this kind of disassembled furniture (like the stuff from Target or Christmas Tree Shop) is like then you will know just what this is. For the price that is what I expected and I was so pleased with the packaging and easy instructions that I rate this very highly. Now must of us are probably buying this for the standing feature. I have not used it enough to speak to it's quality, but so far it is working very well. I have used an expensive standing desk at my previous job and this seems to work on the same smoothness level as that one. Even better, this one has preset positions that you can store in memory (3 of them) so I find that to be very convenient. The previous desk I used did not have this and it is definitely a bit of a pain to have to judge the right position each time you change from sitting to standing. In the future, if I ever decided I needed a better aesthetic, I am sure I could simpley replace the top with my own wood as it very simply screws onto the moving base. I have had this desk for a couple of weeks now and overall I am very happy with it. I gave it a four star review for a couple of minor reasons. I will start with those then move on to the positives. CONS: - Shipping time is very slow. It took 10 days to deliver this desk. I understand that it is a larger/heavier item and will take longer to ship, but as a Prime customer 10 days is a little too long IMO. The desk sat in a warehouse for a couple of days, then FedEx sat on it for a couple of days, then it took about four days to ship it from CA to WA. - I ordered a desk with a brown top and gray legs, and I received one with a brown top and white legs. Given the size and shipping time I decided that I can live the white legs and just went with it. However, the company should QA their deliveries a little better given the size and shipping time. - The drawer does not close flush to the front of the desk. I have the brackets pushed back as far as they will go with the predrilled holes, and the front of the drawer sticks out about an 1/8 of an inch. Not a huge issue, and I will probably drill a few new holes so that I can correct it. - Where the motor power cord connects to the control unit is very close to the bar that rotates when the desk is moving up and down. It isn't touching the bar, but is close enough to be aware of and maybe but some cable clamps in place to prevent it from rubbing against the bar. - The final con (and this is really a nit) has to do with the dowel holes in the top. The top is two pieces split down the middle longwise on the desk. The dowel holes where very slightly misaligned so when the two pieces are put together, they are slightly off on the left and right sides of the desk. To be fair we are talking about a millimeter off and is hardly noticeable. Like I said this is a nit, and if you are not a super perfectionist you will probably not even notice. PROs - Assembly is fairly simple. I did it by myself and it only took an hour or so. The directions are your standard IKEA style pictural directions, so you really need to pay attention to make sure you put it together correctly. All the predrilled holes line up very well (minus the nits from above). - The top is particleboard with a fake finish, but it looks nice and so far has held up well. - I am 6' 3" tall and this desk works perfectly for me. The lowest setting is too low for me. I had to raise it up about 3" for the sitting position. Which means if you are shorter than I am you have some room to adjust. As far as the standing position I didn't have to raise it all the way up to be comfortable for me, and there is a couple more inches in the range. So as long as you are not over 6' 8" tall this desk should work for you. - The motor is very quiet and the motion for larger moves is very fluid. If you are trying to tweak the height of the desk (0.1, 0.2 inches) then the motor will jerk a little. But doing large movements there is a little jerk at the beginning then it is very fluid. - The collision control does work and is pretty sensitive. I had an empty backpack leaning on the leg and that was enough to register an obstacle and stopped the desk. - I currently have two monitors, a laptop, mouse, keyboard, a couple of books, and a few other little things on the desk and it has no problem adjusting in height. - The desk is a little wobbly when in the standing position, but this is to be expected. Higher center of gravity, longer desk legs etc. But unless you are really mashing your keyboard you really hardly notice the wobble. - The control pad is very simple. Up / down button and four presets. To set one of the presets just simply set the desk to the height you want and hold one of the preset buttons down for 5 secs or so and boom done.
