The size chart runs big. I was going to return it but needed shorts so much so I just use a belt. If size chart shows large for you then I advice medium. But the shorts are great. They are too flimsy for hiking though, a twig would tear them.

If you're someone like me and you wear shorts all year round, these may disappoint. They're made of a thinner material, sort of like a wind breaker. They would be perfect for the summer months because of how thin and light they are, there is just no insulation for fall or winter. They have good sized pockets (sometimes pants/shorts have very shallow pockets) and I would recommend these as long as you don't run cold. ... show more

Apparently, a certain member of my household did not like my summer "dad shorts" style, so, a few years back most of my cargo shorts took a summer vacation to the thrift store and never came back. This is my first new pair of "dad shorts" and I plan to keep them if I can. They are super light weight, basically a nylon bathing suit style fabric. I normally were medium pants or 33 waist jeans, but I got the large since I figured I would rather be comfortable and need a belt then squeezed into shorts that are too small, Large fits me fine and is just a tiny bit baggy, so I do not think the medium would have been comfortable. However, I really dislike the zippers on the front slash pockets -- I find them annoying when I just want to get something out of my pockets and it also makes it impossible to clip a folding knife to the pocket, which is something I always do. So, based on slightly small size and annoying pockets, looses one star. ... show more
