I bought this because I'm a child of the 90's and I was feeling a bit nostalgic. I miss when every game came with a manual that told you about the game/developers/controls/etc. Evercade brings that feeling back. Opening your new games is a delightful experience. I also like how many cartridges are available now, and how they keep updating the collection and software. This handheld console still gets a lot of support, and the hidden games you can unlock was a wonderful surprise. I'd recommend the Evercade to anyone, especially the handheld model because life makes it difficult to sit at home and play games, but with this lightweight and comfortable in your hand console you can game when the opportunity arises out and about. ... show more

This thing is very picky when it comes to charging blocks. I finally got one after trying 4 different blocks that it likes. Now that I can charge it properly I’ll play it more but so far I enjoy the Mega Pocket just a bit more, only flaw on the mega pocket is the d-pad. Other than that this handheld feels premium and plays just fine. I like that it connects to Wi-Fi making updates a breeze. The buttons are very responsive and it has a pretty long battery life. I wish the handheld came with its own brick so that’s why I had to deduct a star. Other than that I would recommend this handheld without a doubt if you’re into retro gaming. ... show more

This handheld surprised me. It has the perfect weight, soft buttons and a buttery smooth diagonal pad. Also I’m new to the Evercade world but I’ve enjoyed it very much so far. In today’s day and age where you have access to endless games digitally, it’s nice to have options where you can still use a game cartridge. It’s nice being able to focus on a small group of games at a time vs thumbing through endless lists of games where I can’t choose. Great little device for the price. ... show more

    • Twice the Price, Half the Volume: My EXP-R Review

Sorry, Blaze, I want to love what you’re doing, but this isn’t the quality I expected for something priced at twice the Super Pocket. The sound is the biggest problem: even with the volume all the way up, most games still sound like they’re playing at a whisper. It’s a consistent issue across titles (and people on the official subreddit report it on all models), and only a few games ever spike to a respectable level — which makes it feel like a software/firmware problem. Overall, a disappointing investment. I’m keeping mine, but I can’t recommend it. If you’re looking into the Evercade ecosystem, get a Super Pocket — it’s better built and feels nicer in hand. Blind-tested, I’d probably assume the EXP-R was the cheaper unit. The EXP-R’s only real advantages are online capability and slightly better shoulder-button placement. Great handheld. Great value at this price point. Loving it so far. Plenty of reviews out there. Highly recommend you check it out. Hope they keep releasing more Tomb Raider titles and other great retro carts.
