Installed in a Fender Blues Jr. along with some cooler JJ tubes to get maximum headroom. Speaker isn't for metal, which is fine with me. For country and blues, this is an excellent choice. Takes the harshness out of the stock Fender speaker in the higher frequencies, but doesn't reduce the highs or muddy them up. I wouldn't say the speaker is warm (ie: it isn't bottom heavy) it is just fairly flat and smooth. Doesn't sound like it is coloring the sound of the amp, just reproducing it. No brainer upgrade if you run clean to moderately crunchy and want definition and clarity. It does seem a bit louder than the stock speaker, too. I went from liking my Blues Jr. to loving it. Just put them in a week ago and only played several hours, need to break them in,, but so far they sound excellent. Put them in a 71 vibrolux, I have Warehouse speakers in my other vibrolux. Both speakers are good just different.. I really like these Eminence speakers cuz they're not harsh and they sound a lot like the original Fender speakers that were in the amplifier, just more Headroom and more tightness".. update!!!!: I've had a chance to break these in and they might be the best speakers I've ever used for a fender amplifier. They sound very similar to the original Fender ceramic speakers. Except they don't break up as easily and they're a little bit smoother. I was really looking for something that sounded like the original speakers with more Headroom.. Bingo!!! that's what I got with these.. I highly recommend these speakers ... show more

    • Perfect for Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue

This speaker has vastly improved the sound of my Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue. As many have written the BDRI stock speaker is not very good - even though it is also a Eminence speaker, made to Fender specs. The Cannabis Rex really does tighten up the bottom and tame the highs. I purchased the amp primarily for use with my full sized L-5 style jazz guitar, but I found that with the stock speaker I had to dial back the treble and bass to next to nothing, and use a 5 band Parametric EQ and Compressor to get a musical sound out of the amp. Having done my research I fully expected to replace the stock speaker and I got the amp at such a good price that it was worth it to me. The C-Rex does not disappoint and at a great price. The stock speaker has a more traditional tweed sound, but was so piercing and flabby at the bottom as to be very limited without the use of the compressor and EQ noted above, whereas my goal is to plug and play - guitar, cable, amp. The Cannabis Rex did exactly what I needed - enabled me to get rid of the off-board EQ and compressor and allowed me to actually use the EQ on the amp. Now I can get a vintage tweed tone by scooping the mid a little or a darker blackface tone using the EQ on the amp alone. Also the speaker give me significantly more clean headroom on the amp. Though they say the C-Rex is louder than the stock speaker I found that I was able to turn up higher because the tighter lows reduced feedback and the tamed highs made for a much smoother sound. I also use a mid 70s Telecaster with a Fender noiseless lipstick pickup in the neck position and a very hot lead pickup (I think it is a Seymour Duncan, but I changed it so long ago I don't recall) and the C-Rex sounded very musical with that as well. Telecasters can be painfully trebley, but not so with the C-Rex. Bottom line is if you want tight lows, smooth highs, and the ability to actually use the full range of EQ settings of the amp then this is a great choice. ... show more

First of all, it takes about 5 minutes with a Philips screwdriver to change the speaker so no excuses. Although I "liked" the Jensen speaker that came stock from the factory, this speaker gives me the tone I was looking for. Warm and clear and maybe a bit louder too. The shrillness of the bridge pickup on my Strat is under control and I can crank the preamp way up. Ok so this may sound odd but if you're looking for a warmer "Oooooooo" voicing and less of the Bright "Eeeeeeeeee" then try this speaker. ... show more

As with many of us, I put this speaker in a first-generation Fender Super Champ XD, which I bought to play guitar through (of course) but at this point I am mainly using to amplify (don't laugh) a cello with an cheap acoustic guitar pickup stuck on the front of it. I had tried various other options including the JBL Eon that I use as a vocal monitor. It's wonderful for that, but the cello sounded like fingernails on a blackboard. The Champ (using the Acoustasonic amp model) had a better tone, but not great, and was a bit wanting in the output department. In the course of my "research", I started reading reviews of the Rajin' Cajun which indicated that it might be just the thing- for this particular application. And it is- more output, smoothed out the highs, tightened the lows and warmed up the mids. Perfect- for this; but if you need the classic Fender jangle, you might want to consider just upgrading your amp, because this speaker will attenuate that sound, at least a little. It's a darn good speaker, but it may or may not be what you need. ... show more

I put this speaker into my Fender, Champ HD+ to replace the speaker that came with the amp. The original speaker sounded pretty darn good, but this one takes it to the next level. Of course every guitar will react to an amp and speaker differently, but they all sound great through this speaker. In my opinion it's just a liver, tighter sound than the factory speaker. The highs are more defined, the mids sound sparkly and clear without being harsh, and the bass is nice and low but tight. Believe it or not I play through my Champ amp now more than my Vox AC15, 70's Music Man HD212, 73 Fender Twin Reverb, and the rest. Guitars I've played through the amp (and they all sound great but of course all of them different according to their own voice): Various Telecasters, Stratocasters, Gretschs, Epiphones, as well as running various acoustics through it and even a Telecaster Bass (Bass only for recording). It mics up great using an SM57 midway between the speaker cone and edge, off by a couple degrees. ... show more
