I bought this to connect my Sony Mirrorless camera to my laptop for remote podcast recording. Almost every other camera capture card on the market is limited to 1080p resolution. The last one I bought said 4k on it but it simply meant that it received 4k footage fine - it downgraded all incoming footage to 1080p. This Delgato camcard both captures 4k and outputs 4k on the other side. I don't think there's another product that does this at this price point. It works good. I had problem with my previous old camlink and had to order a new one for a change. While I was waiting for the delivery, I figured out that I can plug my camera even without camlink. So I returned it. But the product itself is worthy, recommend it

This is a close one. I just wrote a bad review for a different capture device that does not support Linux at all, because it doesn't follow the established standards and therefore requires a proprietary driver that they simply haven't made for Linux. This one also seems to be slightly non-standard, but it's close enough that the Linux community could add what practically amounts to a post-it note inside the kernel, so it can manage its slight oddness and use it anyway. Pleased with this Elgato Cam Link 4k and easy setup. I had unanswered questions about whether it would carry Audio as well as Video. It does. So far, I'm not seeing any lag and it was virtually Plug and Play after installing Elgato's Hub software. This enables me to route an external XLR microphone via a BeachTek preamp (BeachTek DXA-Micro-Pro) to the Mic input on the camera. Both Audio and Video arrive via the Cam Link. Nice. ... show more

Use this for OBS, Zoom and any other video/call software. It's practically plug and play but knowing someone with some tech knowledge is always helpful because a mic will probably be needed if your going to this step of getting a good camera signal then your don't want a junky sound for a low end mic.
