  • EDEL RAID HUNTERS
If Cou, Ren, Cisqua, and Kuea continue on foot to Edel Garden, it could take a very long time. If only they had an airship! Conveniently, one crashlands right in front of them at this point. Its wreck was caused by a Edel Raid wielding warrior hunting for Cou and Ren, or more accurately, to kill Cou so he could so Ren would be free to be used by another. Hopefully, a training regimen imposed on Cou by Rowen will allow him to use Ren's power with more skill and efficiency that will allow him to fight longer with more power. The group continues to run into not only other Edel Raids but also more people that want to use them for their own ends. Cisqua gets a rude awakening when they run into an Edel Raid named Selina who ran away from the idyllic existence in Arc Aile when she began to see her life there as imprisonment and now seeks the man she bonded with and loved years ago. In the last episode on this dvd, Cou and the others arrive in Razfe Ankle, where a secret society uses Edel Raids for sport. Elemental Gelade is an enjoyable show, but this volume was a bit formulaic with the encounters with more Edel Raids and Edel Raid hunters. Is the show just going to become battle after battle of Cou having to save Ren from those that wish to possess her? If so, it will become boring fast. I also wish Ren would get a little more personality going. Right now, she makes Star Trek's Spock look over-emotional and walks around like a drugged out zombie that spouts the words "Cou" everytime she gets a close-up. Please, someone give this girl some vitamins! Besides Ren, the other three main characters are interesting and likeable, especially Cisqua, who apparently dropped in from Miami Guns and likes to settle everything with guns. On Volume 2, the issue of who is really on the Edel Raid's side comes up and there really isn't a clear answer. Even Arc Aile comes off a little negative here. Even though they protect the Edel Raids, is it any kind of life to live in a cage, even if the bars are are wrapped in lace? The animation is not that great and is at times pretty crude, but the bold character designs and vibrant colors make up for this. ... show more
