It does work good on loose soil with no rocks and feels very solid, but the first time I hit a rock it dented the tip bad and after a 20' x 20' all the tips were curling inward and dull. It also struggles with compact soil, it plugs up quickly and doesn't go very deep. The round bar for your foot, while it is strong, it lacks a good size to plant your foot on. I really suggest getting this aerator for your backyard. It was really easy for me to assemble and really easy to use it. My backyard was really bare before and I had used it as soon as it arrived. I cannot wait to see the outcome.

Trying to aerate my new home’s back yard. It confirmed I have a lot of rock and packed in dirt (not soil). I do see some improvement where I could dig in One small thing to watch out for: there are little plastic end caps on some of the screws. They can be knocked off accidentally by your arm when cleaning out the spikes. Not a reason to cost a star ... show more

As seen in the picture, if your lawn has any grass in it, this tool will get clogged. Whoever designed this product obviously didnt test it out. The dirt pushes through until it reaches the top where the additional enclosing cylinder blockes the dirt from exiting. You would rather close the side holes entirely or close the top hole and create a slope to push the dirt out. You can see in the picture that the top enclosing traps the grass and dirt in. Flawed design, does not work. Buy something that has a sloped top that will push out the cores. ... show more
