Overall quality is good. The book is thick plastic-y paper with sewn binding. The pen is also a good quality and holds up to my 3 year old. Biggest issue with the book is that it either requires the child to be able to read or an adult to read it to them. I was really hoping for some good, independent quiet time activities and this is NOT that. The other issue I have with it is that the pen, unlike others in the HotDot family only lights up green and not red so no feedback for wrong answers. If they "mark" a wrong answer or miss the mark on a correct answer by enough then they get the same feedback (nothing). ... show more

I bought this for my 3 year old. He like that the pen would light up green to show him he got the answer right and he knew if it light up red then he had to try again. Just wished this would read to him but it pretty much just light up red and green and can't complain for the price I got it for so I guess it wasn't a bad buy. ... show more

Got this for my 3 year old. She liked it, but doesn't use it much. I think it is a little hard for her since she can't read so she can't do it on her own. The pen lights up as correct for everything, even when wrong. The idea is great, but worked very poorly. Also very small, pen and booklet fit in a ziplock sandwich bag.

This did not work. It’s supposed to light up green when you get the correct answer. It lights up green for everything even if you answer something wrong. So it was pointless and we ended up tossing it :(
