This is a fun horn to play. I played Eb Alto over 50 years ago (yes, I'm an old codger) and decided I wanted to learn how to play the soprano sax. I upgraded the included mouthpiece and ligature to Yamaha YAC1281 4C Standard Soprano Saxophone Mouthpiece and Rovener Ligature. It sounds pretty good - not a real "smooth jazz " kind of sound, but that may come as I improve my technique. The instrument came with one reed, a portable lightweight hard case with strap (which provides decent protection), mouthpiece, neck strap, mouthpiece cushion pads, one cleaning cloth, white gloves, and alcohol pads. There was no cleaning rod. I was not prepared to spend thousands of dollars on a saxophone, and this one appears to be decent quality. We'll have to see how it holds up.

I'm happy with this purchase. The sax arrived intact and undamaged. All of the keys work properly, and I'm able to get a good tone from low to high notes. It’s worth noting that I also purchased a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece and Rico 2.5 reeds to go with it, as I’ve heard that the mouthpiece and reed are often weak points on inexpensive horns. Although I’m new to the saxophone, I’m not new to wind instruments and I was ready for a challenge. I wasn’t expecting much at this price point, but the way it sounds, feels, and looks exceeded my expectations. Even the case is surprisingly nice. For the value that this represents, and not having to spend thousands for a horn to learn on, I give this soprano sax a 5 out of 5. Although how well it holds up over time remains to be seen, this ticket to sax-town was worth the price of admission.

I was excited to have a working soprano at this low pricepoint. The tenor and alto I purchased from Eastrock have been great. But this instrument was terrible. While the original mouthpiece could produce sound, I purchased a yamaha 4C mouthpiece, which helped. However, the sax couldn't really play above upper C or lower E. I'm an intermediate/advanced clarinet+sax player, and tried my best to make it work. Furthermore, the notes were not in tune with each other. You could bend them with the embouchure, but some notes were almost a half step off from where they should be. Great pricepoint if you want to make sound. But if you want to make music, I don't think this will work for you =(

Omg. I have been waiting to purchase a saprono saxophone. I have been playing the alto for just a little over 30 years. This is absolutely a fun instrument. I can't believe I waited so long to purchase one. Plays beautifully.

Figure that you will have to take it to a repairman for some final adjustment. This can be true with a new Selmer as well, so no big deal there. With over 60 years of playing, I have always liked black nickel on a sax. Throw away the mouthpiece and reeds that come with it because life is too short. I use a Yamaha 5C with a Legere #3 European Cut clarinet reed and it is just great. Aftermarket necks can be had for under $35.00 a pair [straight and curved] and can well be worth a little experimentation. I also have and Eastrock curved soprano in lacquered brass which is lovely as well.

The first thing you're going to do when you unbox this adorable sop is throw the entire mouthpiece assembly directly into the dumpster along with any hope of using this horn in the recording studio. Next get yourself a real mouthpiece and reed (my reed came cracked but I wasn't going to use it anyway) and some real expectations of what this instrument is actually capable of (unless you just bought this sax as a trophy to display in your room because it's so darn cute). I bought this soprano to have a small and portable sax to take on camping trips and practice when I travel, which it does very well (with the exception of some intonation issues and an annoying sticky G# key). TL;DR: Mouthpiece and reed upgrades are essential. G# key sticks and the intonation is not perfect but it's worth the buy for a tiny travel sax.
