  • Perfect Beginner Clarinet at a Great Price!
Size: Beginner, Nickel-plated keys
I purchased this beginner clarinet for my daughter as she starts middle school band, and it has been a fantastic purchase. She absolutely loves her clarinet, and I love the price! Instead of paying to rent an instrument from our local music store, we decided to buy this one, and it turned out to be the better value. It arrived in great condition, looks nice, and has everything she needed to get started. For beginners, this is an excellent option that saves money without sacrificing quality. If your child is just starting band, I definitely recommend giving this clarinet a try before spending money on a rental. ... show more

  • Great Beginner - Intermediate Clarinet
Size: Beginner, Nickel-plated keys
As a clarinet beginner, I had a hard time at first creating sound, but after a few days of dedication and practice, I assure you, you will create some sound! You can see in the video, I'm not the best clarinet player, but I tried my best to play something! I hope you like it. I did blend in some sounds together to create something more pleasing to hear. Other than that, the sound itself is not fixed in any other form. I want to note that at first, the clarinet pieces (mouthpiece, the barrel, the upper joint, the lower joint, and the bell, (in order)) were hard to piece together. I realized then that all new clarinets are a bit hard around the cork because the manufacturers want clarinet to last longer, hence the tighter the better, that way the cork doesn't become too lose too fast (what clarinet cork grease can be used for). Tip: You can also adjust the barrel or switch to the other barrel it comes with to your liking for different or better sound. About the Bb Clarinet: Bb clarinet is the most popular used instrument. It's a transposing instrument, so the note would be around a major second from the note written on the music sheet. Fun fact about the Bb clarinet is that it's used in songs like jazz or songs like Mozart and older classical songs. Because of the wide range of musical compositions for Bb Clarinet, it is the most prominent choice, especially for beginning students. Another fact to chose this instrument is that it is flexible for players who would like to switch instruments like a saxophone or a flute between or in songs. When I played this Bb clarinet the tone felt bright and rich. I was impressed by the great sound and action that came with it. Make sure to never touch your thin part of the reed (easy to damage) and keep the reed moist when you play for nicer sound. The clarinet comes in great packaging and condition. The fact that it comes with a care kit plus a portable stand and all this for a great price! I definitely recommend purchasing this instrument especially if you are a beginner, you won't regret it! I really hope that this can inspire many people who wish to play or already play the clarinet to try this one. ... show more

  • Great beginner clarinet
Size: Beginner, Nickel-plated keys
The only thing you will need to start playing right away is some cork grease. I got this as a recommendation from my child's music teacher and have been pleased with the sound quality. It is a good value for the money.

  • I would recommend this one from what I seen.
Size: Beginner, Nickel-plated keys
It was great but had to return it because my daughter's other mom had already gotten her a new one. From what I could see it was great quality though

  • I'm frugal - I had high hopes. DON'T.
Size: Beginner, Nickel-plated keys
I have played off-brand wind instruments before. When my son's school told me not to even CONSIDER buying Eastar, Glory, or the other cheap brand instruments I felt offended. I have in the past had great luck with these at least as beginner instruments. So I decided to buy him the entry level Yamaha clarinet as well as this Eastar clarinet. I figured he'd have one for at school so we don't start war with the band teachers, and we'd have an extra for at home. I am SHOCKED. I FULLY expected this to be a good beginner instrument. I assumed it would lack that precise tone that we seek, and I expected for it to go a little sharp/flat here and there... this thing is NOT a playable instrument. There is no value at all to be had in this. This breaks my heart. I desperately want there to be a economical choice so that ALL kids can play in the band because I LOVE music. I'm also gutted that if a child received this that I feel certain they would lose interest in music completely because they would not ever be able to play this instrument. My instrument of choice is saxophone so I'm not a pro at Clarinet player by any means. However, I can comfortably hold and produce sound and notes from a clarinet pretty effortlessly. The Yamaha YCL-255 even with a off brand mouth piece I was able to play with no problems. This Eastar clarinet I got light headed trying to get a note out of it. I was able to get it to play some notes but it sounded absolutely wretched. I mean I was irritated and wanted to stop playing it. I passed it to my son who is ultra beginner. He was able to play Hot Cross Buns on the Yamaha ... little bit of squeaking here and there, but what I'd expect from a beginner. I handed him the Eastar and even after a few minutes and turning red in the face he couldn't get it to produce any note at all. No squeaks... just the sound of rushing air. Nothing would come out for him. So I can't tell you EXACTLY what makes this instrument so terrible but I did notice a couple things that probably bear mention. 1.) The cork tenons are as far as I can tell are flush with the plastic and have no give. I find it hard to believe that it makes a good seal. It doesn't fall apart but this is not like a cork tenon I've ever seen. 2.) The pads on the keys are just bad. The connecting one between the two body pieces has a large piece of cork that isn't even seated right. It would 100% fall of within a use or two. Aside from those two things nothing really stands out to me in the looks department or feel department. It looks pretty much like any other clarinet and feels pretty much the same too. Guarantee you different in playability. Please do not purchase this for your child especially, you will be killing their future love in music. If I was handed this thing and tried to play it for days... I'd never want to play an instrument again. Look for the entry level brands Buffet, Yamaha, Selmer, Jupiter refurbished and used. They are still more expensive than this, but way more reasonable than what schools are trying to rope you into. ---- TL;DR NO VALUE at all to be had here. We will be returning this. This is not even suitable as a backup instrument in case the other needs repairs. This cannot be used at all. ... show more

  • GOOD BEGINNER CLARINET BUT !!!TERRIBLE!!! MOUTHPIECE!
Size: Beginner, Nickel-plated keys
I ordered this for my daughter for band since she decided she hates the flute and I have experience playing when I was a kid. It came recommended in some “best clarinets for beginners” searches lol. The price for what you get is good. The instrument itself and the keys and pads are good. The mouthpiece is trash! Completely defective and cannot make a sound 9/10 times, just screeches…even with Rico reeds! This was Tested by me, my kid, band teacher, and a very gifted student at school both on this instrument and her higher quality one and the mouthpiece is not playable on anything. The instrument itself plays fine when you swap out the mouthpiece. She was using a Yamaha on loan until this came and I absolutely did not expect the same quality with this as with the Yamaha of course, but I did not expect it to be unplayable. I was very concerned until we swapped mouthpieces, but then it played fine and had a decent sound. It’s no buffet lol but with a decent mouthpiece it plays great. I’m hoping the manufacturer will be willing to send a replacement without us having to send the whole thing back!!! I will keep y’all updated on that and I will update my review rating to higher stars if they do!!! She is playing it with a borrowed Yamaha mouthpiece for now and has a Rico D’Addario b5 as well as a Clark Fobes mouthpiece coming in the mail in a few days to play this with. I assume we were just unlucky and got a defective mouthpiece (which happens even with high end brands) and that you would be mostly safe ordering this however I highly encourage you to invest in better mouthpieces anyways as they can make a great difference to an instrument. Both that I have coming that I mentioned are inexpensive and well known to make playing easier and produce a better sound on most anything. Anyways the rest of the instrument seems great for the price point and to be well made. The corks are well glued and seal very very tightly haha. You can always sand them down if needed. Another gripe I have is that this does not come with any cork grease which I find to be silly! I ordered some pure lanolin (in nipple cream form lol) and I applied it after I paraffin waxed all the corks to protect them. I highly recommend lanolin as it won’t break down your cork glue. The pieces will go together easier after some break in time and greasing lol. At least it doesn’t leak! It comes with a few no name reeds which I have not attempted to play with yet since we use Ricos but I will update if I do. It also came with a plastic reed which I have not tried nor has my daughter since I’m a reed snob and wanted her to learn to play on real reeds but I’m sure it could be helpful for younger students and their parents banks if it works! I’ve never tried one from any brand so I don’t know. It comes with a stand, gloves, cleaning rag, mouthpiece (garbage), ligature, 2 barrels, teeth guards, and some other odds and ends. Overall, it is a great instrument for the price point but the mouthpiece was complete trash and made it kind of a bad experience for a bit and I have now had to order replacements…. annnnd I think it should come with grease. I still think it would likely be a good beginner kit for most and that we just got a defective mouthpiece. The rest we are happy with. ... show more

  • Great price point for beginners
Size: Beginner, Nickel-plated keys
This Bb clarinet includes everything you need to get started right out of the box, it even comes with soft, white gloves and a stand. There are no assembly instructions, which wasn’t a problem for me as I have done it many times. The cork is very tight because, so be sure to use the included cork grease when you first assemble the clarinet to ensure that there’s no damage to the cork. I always use a twisting motion, which allows for less wear on the cork. The case is very nice as well, it has a soft lining and seems well protected for a soft-sided case. I like that it also comes with a stand, although I do wish that it fit in the case, so I would not forget it. The clarinet itself seems well constructed, but a bit fragile for a child who may not be able to handle it delicately. It’s great for beginners, the keys are close together making it easier for smaller hands. The sound is excellent for the price. It has a rich, warm tone. I did find I needed to tune it with a piano to get it at the right flat. The keys work easily and there’s no squeaking. This is definitely an instrument for a beginner though and at this price, it’s far less expensive than renting and can just be passed on to another when you are ready to upgrade after mastering this one. All in all, I’d say that this clarinet is a great value for beginners looking for an all inclusive, great sounding instrument. ... show more
