  • Best jk bumper on Amazon
Hopefully I can clear up some lame reviews, if you have some mechanical ability it’s an easy install; if not have someone do it for you. Seriously just pay someone to do it. Sit down and read through the destructions, really just read through them. Super easy, take the old bumper off, put the new bumper on, pack grease into the bearings that the carrier pivots on and adjust the spare tire however you like it. Very simple, adjust the link, no noises, great finish. Well packaged, yes ups beat the heck out of the boxes but I had no damage to the product. Buy some spray paint and plan to touch it up if you see rust(it’s just how these things work). This install took me just under 2 hours at a very relaxed pace. Find some friends or jack stands to initially hang the bumper and start the bolts. Holds a 35 perfect and would probably hold a 40. If you’re an idiot and don’t pack grease into the bearings you will have issues. If you own a jeep and can’t comprehend touching up the bumpers with spray paint you will eventually end up crying about it. Great bumper, fit perfectly, no issues. 07 jk the sticker that you can’t read just said don’t exceed vehicles rating. ... show more

  • Nice bumper! Crappy directions and packaging.
I like the bumper. The package was all torn by the time I got it but they did wrap it well enough that it didn't get damaged to bad. It had a few bare spots about 1/4" diameter it wasn't enough for me to worry much about it. I touched it up and can't tell where it was damaged. The directions were terrible. The pictures were dark and hard to make out and they even left out a step. It took me about 30 minutes to figure it out. I like the looks and it functions great. I run a 35 x 12.5 tire and it fits great on the lowest adjustment down and furthest setting in. I definitely recommend just be prepared to be patient. Update 01/07/19: the brackets that bolt to the tailgate are rusting. The finish is flaking off. ... show more

  • Think of it as a platform to build on. Great Customer Service!
To start off with, I'd suggest thinking of this bumper/carrier as a platform to build on. The bumper will work out of the box, but with a little work (and a few visits to your local hardware store) you can turn this into something more than what you might expect. When the bumper came it looked like the UPS driver had drug it behind the truck for a few miles before dropping it off. The box was torn and all of the hardware (along with the tire carrier) missing. I called the EAG customer support line listed on their Amazon page and they sent out the missing hardware almost immediately. I was a bit surprised here. When I called, I got a live, living and breathing human being out of California (I think)...no voice mailbox or IVR phone tag. They even called me back to make sure that they had everything in the package that I needed. That kind of customer service is rare these days. Thank you EAG! Several of the other reviews call out modifications you can make to the bumper to improve it's fit and functionality. Because of this it may make more sense to think of this as a platform you can build on rather than a install-and-forget bumper/carrier. Some Mods I've found (and used) so far: * Adding a 1/4" grease fitting provides an easy way to keep it greased and working. * Adding Nylon or Rubber washers to the turnbuckle will stop much of the rattling. Several other reviewers used rubber. I used Nylon as it will last longer and still stops the metal-on-metal rattle you can get if the turnbuckle isn't adjusted right. * I added a lock washer to back side of the rubber tire stop. This will stop another potential rattle point. This one took me a while to find. The turnbuckle was tight, but I still kept hearing a rattle. Via some percussive work on the tire I found that the hex bolt that holds the tire stop on will rattle when the tire pushes on it. A lock washer on the back side seems to fix that. * The flat angle of the corners are great places to add 12V accessory outlets. If you do this on the left hand side the open space behind the tail light provides an easy place to run the wiring. * HiLift carrier. I haven't done this one yet, but the flat angle of the carrier can be used to install a hi-lift jack carrier. I've seen this done two ways. One is to use the mounts that bolt onto the carrier, the other is to use a stand-off mount that clamps to it. From an install standpoint the bumper/carrier was about what you would expect. It uses a pair of angled inserts to attach the bumper. It can be a PITA to get those installed, but I found you can run a m8 nut from under the bumper rail into the plate to hold it in place until you can get the bolts started. Take your time in lining the bumper up, The inserts and bolt holes have some play so you can adjust the bumper to get it lined up with the your Jeep. Each Jeep may be slightly different so the adjustment here helps compensate. For our Jeep I had to put the passenger side almost all the way in and up in order to get it to line up on the driver side. The overall key is to try and get it even and straight before tightening up the bolts. Even if you don't intend to use the carrier hitch, I'd install the bolts for it. They tie the center of the bumper to the rail and you run the risk of pulling the bumper out of place if you try and yank it out the mud without it. There is a metal plate that goes in front of these bolts (see the last pic). I believe they are designed to add additional rigidity there. So far the hardware itself seems to be holding up. No rust (yet) and the bolts seem to be grade 8. I'll update the review if they start to rust or if I run into issues there. In all this is one of the best mods we've done on the Jeep. I took a chance with EAG as opposed to going with a more well known Smitty, RR or LOD bumper. I wanted something lighter than the 170lb Smitty, but still durable and one that supported one-handed opening. This seems to fit the bill at only about half the cost and some of the best customer service I've seen in years. Great Job EAG! ... show more
