  • Nearly perfect
Style: 9,500-Watt Dual Fuel
Truly great features for an inverter generator. Time used, load displays and lots of options for output along with tool kit and various plugs to use. Be prepared to have to crawl on the floor to access the oil fill cap which, for some reason, is deep inside an access port at the bottom of the unit. But they do give you a long funnel to fill it (40 oz of 10W30. The manual provided is just about the best one I've encountered. A Plus. ... show more

  • Really Good, a Few Downsides
Style: 9,500-Watt Dual Fuel
Our power company, Xcel Energy, has taken to preemptively shutting off power to thousands when it gets dry and windy. This is after they got sued due to a horrible wildfire in Marshall, CO a couple of years ago, which some thought they might have contributed to starting. We are now like a third world country with unreliable power. So people in Colorado need generators. So . . . I got this Duromax inverter generator because my previous unit, another style and brand, provided somewhat dirty power (that is to say, voltage and frequency varied too much), which caused problems with my furnace, the most important thing I needed to power. This one powers my furnace no problem, and the electronics are happy! In addition, with its low idle function, which throttles down to about half throttle, it generally powers what I need in the house while consuming less fuel and making a lot less noise. The inverter can make the proper voltage at these lower RPM's. Its 220v 30 amp outlet can connect to the legal and proper cutover system I have and power the whole house (which is a smaller one). I don't run high-draw things like the dryer or electric heaters, but I can use the microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher and electric stove, though I avoid using too many of those at once. If I'm using more power I turn off the low idle function. There was no assembly required, just remove the box, but you do HAVE to add oil (which is not provided) before running. If you forget this the life of your generator will be very short. One nice feature of the unit is the built in battery maintainer. On my last one I'd installed a connector for a Battery Tender, but didn't have to do that this time. Downsides: The thing is heavy, though with its handle and wheels it's not too bad to move. The provided remote is not really useful to me, because it is suggested that you start the unit and allow it to run for a few minutes before connecting the load, ideally a little at a time, and I have to be outside to do that. It's not simple to check the oil - you have to remove two bolts and a cover to get at the dipstick. Get a 10mm nut driver. Some sort of manual latch would have been nice. And it's not particularly easy to add oil either, as the filler is deep inside through the dipstick opening, though they do provide a funnel with a long tube on the end. Also, I should have a high-altitude jet, which I had to call them to source. But so far I've not been able to figure out how to install it. They have a video up on the subject but it's not for this model, but rather an open-frame one where everything is easy to get to. I enquired of tech support, but they have not gotten back to me. They really should put up a video for this and similar models - are you listening, DuroMax? Lastly it's a bit difficult to get started on propane. The propane has to force all the air out of the lines before it will start, which takes a bit of cranking. This is the case with all propane generators I've seen. Some have suggested slowly pulling the manual start cord a few times, and I've found that turning on the propane and leaving it for 10 min or so helps. I wonder if some sort of bleeder at the unit would allow bleeding the air, and you could shut said valve when you smelled propane. Just a thought. ... show more

  • Wouldn't buy
Style: 9,500-Watt Dual Fuel
Generator worked great at first but co sensor failed and on backorder. I live off grid. Thought it would be a good generator based off a reviews. Now the generators sat broken longer than I owned it. Would not recommendue to poor product support. If I would have known about the support the lack of parts I would have not bought this unit.I would have gone to harbor freight and butter predator. ... show more
