  • Duncan Butterfly XT Yo-Yo – 5/5 Stars
Color: Blue/Green
I grew up with yoyos and hadn’t picked one up in about a decade, but with twin eight-year-old boys now, I figured it was time to get back into it. For the price, this Duncan Butterfly XT is hands down one of the best yoyos out there. Duncan is always reliable, and the Butterfly is a classic. The ball bearings are great—it spins forever! My kids love it too, even though they’re just starting out. If you’re looking for a solid yoyo that won’t break the bank, this is a fantastic choice. ... show more

  • Good Yo-Yo for $5. Solid Yo-Yo for those starting to learn how to Yo-Yo
Color: Assorted Color
I was a kid back in the 90s and had an Original Butterfly back then. I thought it was the best Yo-Yo I owned at the time. I had a lot of crappy Duncan Yo-Yos as a kid until I got the Original Butterfly. This version of the Butterfly, the Butterfly XT, is the 3rd version of the Butterfly that Duncan has made. They had a 2016 version that is similar to this new 2019 Butterfly XT. Both the 2016 and 2019 versions look similar in terms of body design, but they have different cap art. I enjoyed playing with the new 2019 Butterfly XT. It is able to do the basic tricks I was able to do as a kid, which were: 1.Sleep the Yo-Yo 2. Walk the Dog 3. Rock the Cradle 4. Around the World In terms of what YouTubers can do this Yo-Yo can also do advanced tricks. It's not a competition Yo-Yo, or a Yo-Yo to do really crazy stuff on, but it will get the job done on many tricks. From beginner tricks to advanced ones, and it only costs $5, which is insane. If you want something more advanced the Duncan Hornet is $12.99, so there are other higher-end options out there, but if you're looking for a solid cheap Yo-Yo the Butterfly XT should be able to hold you over for hours on end. ... show more

This is actually a great responsive yoyo for starting out or just for fun. The string gap is just wide enough to do some basic string tricks. And the butterfly shape makes them easy enough as well. The bearing is large and provides a good amount of sleep time and so far seems to last. The response system works well enough that you can easily do looping tricks. So it's a good all around yoyo that can do a lot. It's also surprisingly durable. My oldest has put his through the ringer and it's still perfectly functional despite multiple dents and a hairline crack. Plenty of other yoyos would have broken completely but the affordable little Duncan keeps on spinning. For the suggested MSRP they would be impossible to beat. Unfortunately Amazon is currently selling them for a bit more than that. Even then they are a good value for what you get. ... show more

  • Great Throw!!!
Color: Purple/Blue
I love it!! I learned The Trapeze in about a hour of messing around with it. Long sleep times will make learning more tricks easier. It has already been snowing here. I shall spend Winter practicing my throwing! This is Throw number four. I have an Imperial, a Dragonfly, a Hornet and this Butterfly xt. Time for a carrying case! Thanks!! ... show more

  • Excellent upgrade to a classic design
Color: Blue/Green
My 7 yr old kiddo came to me asking for some "Master Pack" of yoyos he saw being hawked by some youtuber with a cut of the profits - $40 for 3 yoyos seemed like a big up front investment for what would probably become paperweights in short order, so I did some digging. The 'main' yoyo in the Master Pack was essentially a Duncan clone with a bearing added to the center spindle, so I searched "yoyo with bearing" and found this one for less than 5 bucks. He loves it! Super easy to sleep, and spins for a LONG time, so it's much more forgiving for learning tricks. He's having fun and working his way up to being able to do the tricks he would need a specialty yoyo for (DNA is the one he keeps talking about). Might get one for myself now since I have to cut a foot off the string for him and I learned my lesson after bashing my shin so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ... show more

  • Probably my least favorite Duncan Butterfly style yoyo.
Color: Assorted Color
Although this yoyo feels good in my hand, it seems light to me. It is a bearing yoyo without break pads. It uses what they call the 'Starburst Response System'. Which is similar to what the old Duncan Imperials and Butterflies used to use. It is a bunch of ridges on the string facing surfaces of the two yoyo halves that radiate out from the axle toward the outer rim. On the older Imperial and Butterfly these ridges were slight and almost unnoticable. On this yoyo they are VERY pronounced! They work great! ...and thats the problem. These ridges make the yoyo highly responsive. I can't get good sleep times with it. One of the reasons to get a Butterfly design yoyo is that distributed weight helps for longer sleep times, and the wide string gap allows for easier string catches to do advanced string tricks. It even says that on the package! What we have here is a butterfly looper. As a looper goes, the Proyo, Bumblebee, Profly, Dragonfly, Iomega Fireball, and Iomega Raider are better. The card that this yoyo came on shows add on parts "Duncan MOD Spacers" to change the string gap. I ordered some just to play with. I will post if I get good results, but my advice right now is to skip this yoyo. I get better performance from a straight up old school Butterfly. If you want a butterfly style bearing yoyo spend a few dollars more and get the Duncan Dragonfly! It's a little more advanced, but lightyears ahead of this yoyo. I got the proper MOD kit for this yoyo, and with the MOD kit 5158PK this is a much better yoyo. But DON'T add the concave bearing! This yoyo with the MOD and concave bearing basically becomes completely unresponsive! As in, you need to know how to bind to get it to return unresponsive! I still don't like this yoyo. Dissapointed. ... show more
