If you live on the West Coast and plan on going out to get waves medium to large, you may want to go for a completely carbon fiber board. After about a month of owning it I already have multiple dings and chips off the board. That's not to say it doesn't ride well or work because it does, but it's not as durable as a CB board. We bought this for our seven y/o's birthday in the 48" size. We knew it would be big for him (he's about 50"), but the light weight made it very easy for him to use and could also support an adult. We chose it after doing some research that indicated this would be the best board for his usage and came highly rated. He had some experience skimboarding last year with a wooden board, but the difference in his performance and enjoyment with this fiberglass board was incredible! Skimboarding was his favorite part of our Maine vacation, and he spent hours by the water using it. Worth the investment and I would strongly recommend this board to anyone! I couldn't believe the distance I could immediately achieve. The first board that came was damaged by the post office and they didn't hesitate to send me a replacement immediately. Ill start with the good. Its a great price and it rides really nice. Skims shallow pools with ease and it floats me enough that i could start catching some small waves and doing little turns after 2 days. I weigh 165# so i was happy that it could float me, and the traction pads are really nice to have. Unfortunately the bad outweighs the good in my opinion, the front pad is meant to just make it a little comfy but really you need surf wax to avoid the occasional slip off. The worst problem is the gel coat separates from the fiberglass VERY easily. My beach is pretty clean so i can understand maybe a few seashell scratches, but the gel coat chipping off like that is a red flag. You can avoid rocky areas but no beach is perfect so this will happen eventually. If this was a wake surfing board or not meant for the beach i would give it 5 stars but the fact that it damages so easily knocks is down to 2 starts for me… maybe 3 if the customer service is good at dealing with this. ... show more
