Description

The 1490 is a classic Dr. Martens punk silhouette with higher laces and more attitude. It features all the distinctive Doc details: grooved sides, yellow stitching and heel-loop. Built to last, this unisex boot is forged using one of the finest methods of construction: utilizing a Goodyear welt and heat- sealing it to the sole. The 1490 is made with highly durable leather and sits on an AirWair sole, which is oil and fat resistant with good abrasion and slip resistance. Use Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam to protect the leather and keep your boots clean, soft and supple. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

  • Nice boots
Size: 11 Color: Cherry Red Smooth
I've had a few pairs of docs over the years. These ones were made in China. The last pairs I bought were made in Vietnam. I noticed that these new ones aren't as stiff as my last pair which makes them easier to break in. I don't know how to feel about this though because they're less supportive around my ankles. They seem a little lower quality compared to the last ones I bought and of course lower quality than my oxblood ones that are made in England. They look damn good though! Comfy as well. They're pretty low cost so I'd buy again. The ones on the right are the cherry red with the oxblood on the left. ... show more

  • Made In Thailand
Size: 11 Color: Cherry Red Smooth
I bought a couple pair of Docs back in the 80's, and I still have them, both Made In England. Great shoes! I was not aware that these were made in Asia. Dr. Martens outsourced back in the 2000's like everyone else, to save money. There are a few subtle differences and two main ones. The leather is different. The Asian leather is softer and more pliable, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It took me over a year to break in my Docs Made in England with constant wear. These boots will probably be broken in within the month, if worn a lot. I'm all for that. The other main difference is the sheen. These boots are shiny to a fault in my opinion, like a mirror shine. I like the original matte finishes, so if you buy these, be ready to be blinded. Prepare to do some work to ramp down that gloss if so inclined, as I have used alcohol, nail polish, and a small grain pad (not enough to scratch). I'm satisfied now. The Cherry Red color is nice, much deeper and richer than Oxblood. I foresee these boots will be worn a lot. ... show more

  • Attention 8.5 women
Size: 8 Color: Black Smooth
I just got the smooth black 1490 boot. I was so confused by the reviews and size chart but I ended up going with the U.K. Size 6/US size 8. Now I am a TRUE size 8.5 in US sizes, I've worn an 8.5 for years, and I'm glad I sized down instead of up. There is PLENTY of room in this boot, I'm going to be adding an insole to it and I can still wear a thick sock even with an extra insole. They need some breaking in but I wore them for 8 hours today with only mild discomfort and will do it again tomorrow. I highly recommend this boot, it is an authentic doc marten as far as I can tell everything is legit and it came in doc marten packaging with tags. This boot retails on the doc marten website for $140, I was able to get it on amazon for $110 and that includes overnight priority shipping. I am thrilled with my purchase and will be buying more martens from this seller in the near future. ... show more

  • Fake Dr. martins
Size: 11 Women/10 Men Color: Black Smooth
Pretty sure the ones I got were knockoffs. Never fit as docs should, the leather felt wrong. I am a lifetime docs owner and threw these away after less than a year. My last pair lasted over 10. I got new ones yesterday from the Dr martins store and confirmed my suspicions. Totally feels different and looks slightly different. Cant speak for all buyers. But your run a risk buying these. ... show more

  • Uncomfortable
Size: 7 Color: Black Patent Lamper
I LOVE Docs but these are the most uncomfortable Docs I’ve ever tried! There was no give on the top when I went to take a step when trying them on. The faux leather pinched the top of my foot. Returned them right away. Not sure how those would ever break in.

  • Nothing better than docs!
I got these on amazon for $15 cheaper and with prime shipping, compared to the Doc Martens official site. My last pair lasted me 6 years of harsh and constant wear in a wide variety of climates and enviroments. This is my third pair of docs and ill most likely never ever buy another brand as long as i live. They are top notch quality and comfort, for every kind of wear, be it work or a cute date outfit. I feel as though the reviews about them being hard to break in or uncomfortable must be by people unfamiliar with real leather boots. I worse mine for a 12 hour work shift on my feet on a concrete kitchen floor, fast paced enviroment, running inside and out on uneven ground, with no break. And my feet and legs hurt LESS than they do with any other shoes after even an 8 hour work day. I will never reccomend anything but Docs to people looking for boots or quality work shoes. Im confident that with a bit better care than my last pair got, these ones will last me a decade. ... show more

  • I took advice from the reviews
Size: 6 Color: Black
I’m a 6 1/2 in boots normally but I read through the reviews and bought a size 6, they fit so nice! I have space for thicker socks if need be but with regular socks it’s still comfortable and not too big. I had a pair of docs a few years ago and they took forever to break in but this pair is so cozy I don’t have blisters from wearing them for hours ( I do wear two pairs of socks with them if I know I’ll be wearing them for the day). I’m really glad I got a size 6. These boots are one of my new favorites to wear out ... show more

  • First Pair of Dr. Martens gets my approval, however....
Size: 8 Color: Black Smooth
Ordered for a US Women's size 7.5/8 in the UK size 6 EU 39 and they fit, just not snuggly enough. I am a US 7.5 and getting a boot that's supposedly for either 7.5/8 I thought would be sufficient, but I think it's still somewhat to large. I have to pull the boot strings really taunt and tight to get the fit I want even with thick socks. However, having more room means no blisters while breaking them in. I think honestly I should get a US Women's size 7 UK size 5, and go a half size down and not up, but not sure if that will be too small or too tight with no room at all. I would hate going back and forth, back and forth and all I want to do is wear my new shoes. Overall, the look of the boot, has a matte black and looks great. The feel of the outside was smooth and the inside had a lot of cushion. I've had Pleasers/Demonia's and other boot like shoes but, having my first pair of real "Doc's" feel and are designed so much better. I'm torn to send them back for the smaller size or just keep the somewhat larger size for added assurance. ... show more
