  • These are the BEST for breastfed babies!!!! Not such a fast flow.
Okay....so I am a breastfeeding mamma but I also work full time so I knew my son would eventually have to take a bottle. I had registered for the Avent Naturals and the Dr. Brown's bottles and had gotten the Level 1 slow flow nipples like I was told. At about 3 weeks after breastfeeding was established, I started pumping and had my husband give my son a bottle to start getting him used to them. We started with the Avent and he did fine with them...but he finished the bottle so fast! He was done in less than 10 minutes but would nurse for a good 20 minutes on each side at a regular feeding. Even with the slowest fliw nipple the milk was dripping out of his mouth and he also spit up more. I researched bottles that were good for breastfed babies and found medela Calma and Breastflow. I ordered them and my son took both of them but he still would finish the bottle way too quickly. The whole issue with bottles in general for breastfed babies is that sometimes baby gets too used of the ease of getting milk with the bottle and doesn't want to go back to the breast. At the breast babies have to work for it. I didn't want to jeopardize our nursing relationship so I kept reading and found a few posts from moms who had recommended the preemie nipples from Dr. Brown's. I didn't even know they made preemie nipples. I thought..what the heck??! I got them in and it has made a huge difference. It takes my son a least 20 if not 30 minutes to finish a 3.5 - 4 ounce bottle. He has to work for it just like at the breast. And because he's not drowning in milk he doesn't drip or spit up anymore. Dr. Brown's really should market these for breastfed babies. I've told several friends who breastfeed about these and all have switched!! ... show more

  • As advertised
Item is as pictured and seems to have a slow flow. This was helpful for my baby when transitioning between breastfeeding and bottle feeding to help reduce nipple preference towards the bottle.

  • Perfect for full term breastfed baby!
My baby is breastfed and occasionally I will feed her with pumped milk. I've tried other bottles that are supposedly for breastfed babies. The flow would be too fast and she would make gasping sounds. Sometimes she would also vomit what she ate (like projectile and it was all of that precious breast milk!) Or be really gassy with an upset tummy. I had a ton of Dr brown bottles with the size 1 nipple and my friend said maybe I should try those bottles with a premie nipple. That sounded like a better idea to me since the bottles that were supposed to specifically be for breast fed babies weren't doing their job. It worked perfect! She was able to eat quick enough to not be mad but slow enough to not throw up and she had no gas thanks to being a Dr brown bottle. It's great! ... show more

  • Very good for slow flow
The "Preemie" part refers to the size of the hole at the top of the nipple and can be used for any aged infant. The smaller the hole, the slower the flow of the liquid through the nipple. I needed to start my son on a bottle because, while I breast feed, I am going back to work and wanted to make sure he could transition to a bottle. My Medela pump came with 2 nipples that were level 1. The flow was too fast for him. He choked, coughed, and spit up a fair amount of the pumped milk. I found it also made him a lazy breast feeder - he got frustrated that the breast flow wasn't as fast and easy as the bottle. My lactation consultant recommended using the Preemie size nipple - and it turns out it works very well. The flow is not as fast; he doesn't get choked, and it's more similar to breast feeding. The nipples are made of silicone, not rubber, and have held up well so far. The Dr Brown nipples fit into Medela, Evenflow, and Ameda bottle tops (they may fit into others but these are the only type of bottles that I have), so there is no need to purchase Dr Brown bottles if you aren't already using them. ... show more

  • Fantastic nipple for newborns to temper feeding time and avoid nipple confusion
I love these nipples and have been using them since birth to 1) temper the speed of feeding to ensure my child feels full at the end of her meal and doesn't ask for more food before the feeling of fullness has hit, 2) minimize saliva going back into the bottle of formula to minimize the need to throw formula away (tiny hole here.) I use these nipples in conjunction with Dr. Brown's vented bottles to minimize the amount of air my child swallows and consequently gas she experiences. I've used these to bottlefeed my daughter from the first week of life and I've not experienced "nipple confusion" -- our breastfeeding relationship is still fantastic! ... show more

  • The only SLOW flow that's out there!
I have 3 month old twins who were born at 34 weeks. One of my boys has had feeding issues since birth, regularly choking on excess milk, and gagging. His feeding issues preventing him from coming home for almost a month. We've used the hospital grade disposable slow flow and "preemie" nipples (too long, made him gag more. Both too fast), Playtex drop-in/Ventaire slow flows (way too fast), Breastflow bottles (he got too much air), and finally Medela wide neck slow flows, which were our best option at the time, but still too fast. Nothing consistently worked, and my baby was forever gagging and choking, often escalating into projectile vomiting. Then we ordered these. Ah, sweet relief. My baby can take a full feeding without choking now. He doesn't need to be on his side to eat, I don't have to angle the nipple in certain ways to avoid gagging, and relatives are no longer afraid to feed him. Most importantly, my little man is comfortable, happy, and well fed. If you breastfeed, have a preemie, or are simply tired of your baby choking on too-fast "slow flow" nipples, get these. We had all three factors working against us, and these have been a Godsent. I only wish I had discovered them 3 months ago! ... show more
