This is a phenomenal semi permanent color and gloss. I tried them all before this one. It's the best in my opinion. I hope this company sticks around cause I need this product in my life forever! I used dark brown on natural dark brown and gray. I have been growing my gray patches for over a year and wanted a temporary color to help fill in the gray during the awkward stages. I had some success with other brands that were bright, fun yet unnatural colors. When I switched to those brands' brown or black they left behind a purple, blue or green color on my grays or wouldn't color them at all. This product has a high level of pigment and leaves a range of browns that ended up looking like highlights and the darker hair super shiny. I used this color immediately after a keratin treatment so that may have affected the level of saturation. (May have been even richer if I didn't just apply keratin) I was surprised how well it colored. I left it on damp hair for 30 min to get as dark a color as possible on my extremely stubborn gray roots. The formula is perfectly slick and covers all of the hair easily without being runny at all. It stains skin and bathroom surfaces more than most, so be careful. Next time I will try using before the keratin and after to really seal the color in and replace any color lifted during the process. It didn't undo the keratin either in case anyone is wondering. In my photo it's easy to see my once gray hair looking blonde to light, medium and darker brown. Very very happy and highly recommend. ... show more

I used to have a balayage. I went brunette the last time I was at the salon, and the color had faded over the course of the last six months. I wanted to refresh my hair and add some color back to decrease the contrast between my natural black hair and the lighter ends. I bought Cool Medium Brown. I dampened my unwashed hair and left the product on for 30 minutes, then shampooed and conditioned my hair as usual. I realized later that the directions say to do this on damp, washed hair. I’ll do that next time. Even so, I found that my hair feels a lot more hydrated and soft. There’s some color that deposited as well that helped decrease the contrast and toned down the reddish tones. I purchased this after having a conversation with my hair stylist about gray blending, which involves coloring your hair to deemphasize the contrast between your primary hair color and your gray hair---the process is intended to blend and not cover gray. She explained there are a couple of ways she could do hair blending, including applying a hair gloss . I loved the concept, but didn't love the idea of paying to have it professionally done every 8 weeks. Enter this hair gloss. I use it every weekend for between 10 and 20 minutes, as directed, and it livens up my natural brunette hair color and deposits a subtle color to my gray hairs. The change is subtle, but exactly what I was hoping for. For reference, I am using on virgin brunette hair. As the manufacturer notes on both the product page and the product bottle, this will not cover gray. If that's what you are looking for, opt for a hair dye that contains chemicals that will help the color penetrate your hair follicle. This is intended for subtle, temporary boosts of color. Note that yes, the brown color will dye your hands when you apply to your hair---it is intended to deposit color, after all. Just wash your hands and it comes off. If you wash your hands a reasonable number of times, the color will come off the same day you use it. Or, you can use disposable gloves to apply the product. ... show more

Please allow me to begin with a couple positives and qualifying notes: 1. I would almost certainly love this product were I a brunette with reddish highlights. Could be a game changer; 2. My hair was well-conditioned; 3. Blondes inherently know that such a product is a gamble to cover roots. Because this product met my low expectations, I do not feel disappointed. It was worth a gamble. A couple negatives: 1. My short blonde hair shown in the before picture required half a bottle of the expensive product; 2. I am not a brunette. I was a dirty blonde before this product. I am now a strawberry blonde. As my 1” dark blonde roots provided quite a contrast against brassy highlights and I looked like garbage, I wanted to cut back on the ‘given up on life’ vibe my hair was throwing. The stark contrast of my natural hair color against processed blonde does appear less egregious than before using this product. Not great but decidedly less offensive to the eye. But again, this was at the cost of changing my hair color. Two hours ago, my driver’s license description for hair color was accurate. Now it’s not. I hope this review helps one of my blonde sisters. When you look at YouTube and don’t see lighter blondes reviewing, when you read these reviews and aren’t impressed with the results of a few blondes posting, be aware that you will not get the wonderful results about which brunettes boast. You may consider running a query for “blonde” and focus on reviews by our people only. Of the hundreds of reviews I’ve left on Amazon, only 1 received 1 star. I do not recall ever leaving a 3 star. Almost always leave 5 star reviews. For instance, the shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair from this line is next level. It makes every strand of hair feel like it’s wrapped in silk. These reviews matter to businesses so I do not issue 3 stars or under lightly. The only reason I am doing so is to ensure another blonde, who’s perhaps not as mellow as I am about potentially pulling a lot of red, from a bad experience. ... show more
