My 4 year old miniature schnauzer is 11.5 lbs. I've owned this breed for 20+ years and do research on everything (food, medications, supplements, treats, health conditions, etc) so I'm an experienced and knowledgeable dog owner. My vet says my dog is one of the healthiest and well-cared for in his practice. I've never used bully sticks because I wasn't sure about their safety, but I decided to try them to see if they'd help clean tartar off my dog's teeth (brushing isn't doing a good enough job IMO). So I researched a LOT of brands, read lots of reviews on different sites and chose these from Downtown Pet Supply. Let me stress that all dogs are unique... different chewing styles and strengths, different reactions to food, different tastes and preferences. Here is why these bully sticks work for MY dog. They don't stink. I sometimes catch a "smokey" scent but I've put them right up to my nose and barely notice anything. They don't make a slimy mess. They do get slimy on the end being chewed but since that end stays in my dog's mouth it's ok. If she turns it around to the unchewed end I just give her the slimy end back and she chews on that, no problem. Since my dog has a beard, messy or stinky would be a deal breaker for me. She's chewed on the first stick 4 times for 30-60 min and is now down to a nub, so I'm fairly happy with how long they last. I give it to her and take it away, I don't leave it out. She's totally crazy about it so she'd probably chew on it all day until it was gone if I let her. Doing it for an hour or less 4 days in a row has not affected her stomach or poop quality at all. As much as I hate to waste any since they're expensive (but fairly reasonable in comparison to other brands), as soon as she stops holding the nub with her paws and starts chewing the whole piece in her mouth I'll throw it away. I don't want to risk any choking or stomach obstructions. The product photo shown on the Amazon page isn't what mine look like, see attached. I got the 6" pack of 5. I've attached pics to show size. They're consistent in length and thickness (which are both exactly what I was looking for). I'm very pleased with these. Since we just started using them it's yet to be determined if they'll help remove tartar on her teeth.

I thought I ordered the 6 inch. Ugh! Last time I ordered the ones for small dogs. I need to read more carefully. The dog eats them and gets excited over any of them. They do smell bad.

At first I thought this didnt arrive with my mailing. That is how slim and light the 6" JUMBO pack is. Then I realized it was lost in the paper. These are pretty much hollow. And very very slim. One semmed almost the zize of a quarter and my sheepdog cracked it in an instant. This is when I realized it was also hollow. Please do not waste your time on these, pay a few extra dollars and buy the real thing. Shame on this seller for this crap. ABSOLUTE RUBBISH.

I purchased the thick pizzle chews along with the medium. I have an Old English Sheepdog mix puppy who is obsessed with chewing pizzle sticks. I struggled to find chews that suited him. He doesn’t like chews that are overly thick, but too thin and they don’t last. The medium and these thick sized chews are perfect! The size is as described. I use the bully grip brand holder, and these fit perfectly in the large. They have a scent. Not so much that they smell rancid, but just enough that my pup is invested. I will be purchasing more. These are a great value, and my pup is happy. Winning all around.
