the cup works very well for having a hot drink in an environment that would be unpleasant to share the drink with the other residents of the tabletop. like an office desk full of papers or a library desk with books. the cork base acts as a coaster, and the top cover prevents accidental spills. as a side point, the thick ceramic along with the cover, insulate very well and keep the drink hot for quite a long time. the cup is also easy to hold and pleasant to drink from BUT it is quite heavy, so if you have issues with your hands or joints, this is not your cup of tea!
