  • Is your power steering whining? Make sure it's simply not a clogged filter/reservoir!
I have a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country LX, 3.3.L. The PS whined a lot. I was unsure for what reason. My father suggested I first replace the reservoir as the filter can be clogged, effectively reducing the rate at which the PS pump itself can suck oil quickly enough, therefore causing that God awful whine. Wo and behold! It was the reservoir. I poured Mopar PS fluid I purchased from the dealership (I didn't want to run the risk of clogging it again with crappy PS fluid). After driving around for about 10 minutes, the whine completely disappeared. Ah, yes, the beauty. TIP: When you remove the reservoir, make sure to have bottles immediately available for both the sending and receiving lines to be inside of the bottles. Have one friend hold a bottle for one line, and you hold a bottle for another, and have another friend turn on the car and move the steering wheel FULLY in each direction 30/40 times to push out as much of that old oil as possible. Be careful! As soon as you remove the lines it will leak, and when someone is moving the steering wheel to empty the system either line will initially explode, and then incrrasingly gently pump out nearly 16 ounces of fluid from either line. Also, when everything is completely assembled, be sure to pour in the fluid to the maximum level, twist on the cap completely, turn on the car, have your friend FULLY move the steering wheel in either direction until the fluid can go no lower. Turn off the car, pour in more fluid to the maximum level again, twist on the cap completely, and again move the wheel. Repeat until the fluid no longer goes below or above maximum level. ... show more

  • LOOKS AND FITS JUST THE SAME AS OEM
I decided to change this reservoir completely. The old one started moaning a bit due to the filter in the bottom of it being slightly clogged. It didn't cost very much. Takes about 3 minutes to change once you get the rear bolt out on the bottom backside. My recommendation is to change the big hose that gos in the back to the pump. The one on my 2007 town and country was hard as a brick. The hoses deteriorate from the inside out. dropped specs of rubber into the system. Thats why the filter starts to get clogged. I dont remember what the price was , i am thinking it was less then 20 bucks. For that price cant be beat. Anyone can change it no Harvard Degree required. ... show more

  • A much needed replacement part.
My power steering started to groan on a shopping trip & i immediately knew what the problem was. Very many postings on line about the filter screen becoming clogged on 2001-2007 chrysler minivans. Will be installing it tomorrow. Note-after siphoning the fluid out of the old reservoir, remove the return hose ( smaller hose) & place the end in an empty gallon jug, then have someone temporally start & shut off the engine to thoroughly empty the old reservoir. After the new reservoir is installed ,fill the reservoir with atf+4 transmission fluid ( chrysler's recommended fluid, they do not recommend power steering fluid probably because its viscosity my be thicker than the trans. fluid). Keep the return hose in the empty gallon jug. Have someone start the vehicle temporally & keep adding fresh trans. fluid to the reservoir until the old fluid is flushed out of the system ( return fluid will now be red). Shut off the engine & fill to the full mark, if too much fluid, siphon some out. If you fail to flush the old fluid out, you're only going to clog the filter again in time. Had to change the reservoir on my wife's 2008 dodge caravan (different reservoir number) so i know the procedure how to do my van. Update. It was just too cold to install the reservoir in my driveway,so i took it to my neighborhood garage & let them install it. No more groaning when i turn the steering wheel. Also i used amsoil synthetic multi-car atf to replace the atf + 4 that it called for. ... show more

  • Exact OEM fit and very easy to install (once the old reservoir is removed)
Great fit and only takes a few minutes to install after the rather tedious process of getting the old reservoir out. The ATF+4 fluid is a whirlpool now, swirling around very quickly and solving the infamous "whine" the steering pump develops when the filter is clogged. I did not like the cap that came with the reservoir but the original cap fits perfectly. I find myself buying Dorman parts more and more frequently and so far, so good. *My poor minivan. Totalled by crashing into a senior crossing the road to get to the golf resort on the other side. The product never failed, though. Highly recommended, until the end. ... show more

  • If you've got power steering pump whine in your Chysler minivan, try this first.
The reservoir looked identical to the OEM and although Chrysler engineers outdid themselves to make the job more difficult than it needs to be by hiding a bolt and locating it in the least accessible place possible, it is a job that can be done in an hour or less. My constant, annoying whine dropped by at least 90%. Good tutorials on YouTube for the replacement. You could try cleaning your existing reservoir and screen but I doubt it would be any easier than just putting in a new one - or maybe clean the old one and keep it as a rotational spare as this seems to be a common complaint on the minivans. ... show more

  • Life saver!
Got rid of the squealing in my 03 grand caravan. The van also would lock the steering out sometimes while mid turn almost causing an accident and 2 months after installing this it still hasn't happened. The filter in the oem reservoir was clogged bad and this was a no brainer to buy instead of trying to clean the filter. No more power steering problems or noise. I even had the power steering pump replaced and all the fluid drained and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I googled the issue and found it to be the reservoir. Thanks Amazon! ... show more

Easy installation, took about an hour including a run to Walmart at 10pm to get a 1/4" extension for the 8mm socket. Van was whining, I thought I had to replace the power steering pump. Saw there was fluid on the outside of the reservoir, so I replaced that first. The van hasn't had a problem since then (been at least 4 months). ... show more

  • Save the old cap!
Great replacement reservoir for my 2005 Grand Caravan. The only problem was the cap that came with the new unit didn’t seal, so fluid would swirl/splash around only while driving and leak a bit. Put the cap from original unit on and no more leak. My dad(a mechanic) says Dorman is trash, but for the price it worked great. ... show more
