I understand that the lights are waterproof, but they do not supply a plug:churching box for the outlet. So I am just using a regular plug. I have from an old phone and this does not seem very waterproof. Do I have to cover the cord every time it rains outside? I got these for car-camping, but will probably use them other places as well. The ability to power them via USB means you can use them with a rechargeable power bank, or just a plug in USB power adapter if you do have plug-in power available. They provide a nice amount of light on high, and just a nice glow on low. I used a USB power meter to get a good idea of how much power they use: Lowest: .43w 50%: 2.5w 100%: 4.8w For folks who don't want to do the math - with a healthy 10,000mah usb battery bank you can use: lowest setting: 83 hours 50%: 14 hours 100%: 7.5 hours It seems to draw a small amount of power even if off (which makes sense as it's probably listening for signals from the remote) - be careful that could either drain your battery bank unexpectedly, or the battery bank will not see enough of a draw and will shut itself off...then the lights won't respond to the remote until the bank is woken up. If you're looking for some nice warm string lights that you can take wherever you want, take a look at these ... show more
