The cover was simple to install, I measured the opening, added a 1/8 inch, put the measurements on the wall next to a stud, and cut out with my multi tool which cuts clean and accurate. I added plywood strips to the backside of the sheetrock to strengthen. It feels sturdy and should hold up for years. I feel that I made the right choice over the plastic inserts. I am working on finishing my basement. The dry-wall / Sheet-rock has not been installed yet as i'm finishing up the plumbing and electrical work. There are multiple places that will require access to. Things like gas valves, water valves, etc.................If you put sheetrock over those, and need to access them later, it will be an issue. I order this panel in the 12" size for one of the places in the wall i will need access to. It is very simply made but of good sheet metal quality and sturdy. Easy to install and solves for a need. I liked it so much i ordered another one in the 8" version. Besides places behind sheetrock that I will need access to, i thought it would be a good idea to use some of the excess space in the framing for secret little compartments or places to store things in. I will use several of these in different places to simply have access to some extra space behind the wall i can put things in. Nothing too big, but still useful. This is a good, reasonably priced product that comes in different sized to accomodate your needs and solves for a need/issue. Highly recommend this wall hole cover. ... show more

I recently had to cut an opening in a closet wall in order to access and replace a shower control valve. Rather than replace the drywall, I thought it would be a good idea to leave the opening in the event that we need future access. I thought about just screwing on a sheet or plywood, but came across this access door, which is a MUCH better solution! This is a heavy duty, very well made steel access door. It is 16" x 16" in order to fit neatly between the existing wall studs. Simply cut the drywall opening to size and screw the access door in place. It comes with a nice primed finish, which can be painted to match the wall, or left as is. It also has a keyed lock. Not necessary in my home, but it could do double service as an in-wall hiding spot for valuables. Hmmm. These doors are also available in two smaller sizes, and all are very reasonably priced. It’s a good quality access panel. I didn’t look at the hole I cut before ordering and I should have done that because 12x12 would have been better. But I just cut more drywall for 16x16. It’s to access the outside spigot pipe. I had to replace it and the thing wouldn’t budge, so I had to cut the drywall in the garage to get to it. I preferred to just install the access panel instead of fixing the drywall. I may have some other problems in the future with the spigot, so I will have an easy access. The product is sturdy and easy to install. I had some issues because a stud was in the middle of the hole, but I managed to make it work. Thank you! ... show more
