I felt it is quite tricky to install it over Intex Mariner 3: 1, it is little to wide, 2, the base mount is too short and no good spot to glue on. I ended up toss the PVC base mount and just enlarge the hole up to 7/16" to match the oar mount. After this, the installation is a breeze. see pic. Given this is a light duty top, for trolling or very slow motoring, it serves the purpose and the price was good. Only reason I gave only 4 stars for "Value for money" is it seems it shouldn't even cost what it does but it's the only game in town for this width. Where this is mounted on my boat is about 48" wide and I had to squeeze a bit to make it fit but it works well. If you are much less in width you may have to alter/cut down to make it fit and not bend the poles but that would not be hard. ... show more

I can't belive all the posative reviews for this item. I guess people give it high ratings because it's the only option available anywhere for less than 150 bucks. That doesnt warrant $80 and 5 stars if it's junk. I guess there just happy to find somthing that fit and is in their price range. Quality doesn't seem to be a factor. Even if it tears or breaks the first time out. The material used is so cheap it's a real concern. Aluminum poles break or bend in the event of a strong wind. I'm surrprised the cloth top didn't tear. Might be ok at half the price but you would need to take great care in using it. Strings are cheap and no mounting hardware is included. ... show more

    • It just made it on my 54” wide skiff.

After buying the hardware for mounting to fiberglass I had to purchase longer pins. The base of the top is wider than a normal hardware. I had to spread it to make the 54” width of my boat rails. I set my mounts bought separately straight on the boat which made it harder to insert the second pin and makes it a bit tight to lower. It did end up working ok. It’s cheaply made and came with cheap carabiners that don’t fit the straps right and I believe the straps will wear out rapidly. At that point I can only hope I’ll be able to rig it with some rope. Hopefully I’ll get a few seasons of crabbing with the top. After a trial run with the boat it seamed to hold up. Keep in mind my skiff only has a 6 hp engine and probably only runs 10 mph. You get what you pay for. Shade is important on a boat if your fair skinned and have a risk of skin cancer. Finding the frame to fit a 54” wide boat was my reason for my purchase of this top. The instructions were not the bad. It took me about 30 minutes to assemble and install. ... show more

Marking location of the mounting areas are critical. The two pads were cemented with clear PVC glue. Be patient and give the glue 48 hours before installing hardware and putting any strain on the pole straps. I leave it up all over the water, even windy days.
