I haven't done paint-by-number since I was a kid, and this caught my eye. Typically, I knit to relax and focus, but was out of projects. This was so darn fun to do! The kit comes with a fairly good quality canvas (it works best if you make sure you have flattened the canvas before using. It comes rolled up. I placed mine upside down and put books on top overnight before use), 3 paint brushes of varying brush size, and all the paint you need. They also provide you with instruction and, of course, the numbered color guide. All you need to provide is the water, and a mild solution to clean the brushes off with. It was so relaxing just to sit and watch the picture come to life. The colors are vibrant, and the paint applies very well. I picked out the Bangkok PBN, and it came out looking like a travel poster :) These are definitely suitable for framing when done, if you wish to add a whimsical touch of color to your decor. I do plan on getting another one, as this provided me with much needed stress relief and the pleasure of seeing something come to life with my efforts.

I recently moved to rural Hawaii and was in the market for some compatible artwork for our playroom, and the Bali design was just the ticket. It's been years since I've painted, and while I'm not really interested in further developing that talent, I am very satisfied with this paint-by-number set. Fine details require careful attention and motor skills coordination, not to mention the planning and observation necessary to paint all the same color areas before moving on to the next color. (Painting all the same color areas is not the only way to approach this, but that's what I chose.) It feels kind of like a jigsaw puzzle to me. I am nowhere near completion at this writing, but I'm far enough along to know that I am going to like the finished product a lot. Even though it's ostensibly for "beginner" level, I find it challenging and rewarding. If the vendor had more tropical themed kits, I would be willing to order them as well.

It says it's a paint by numbers kit with poster style London picture and that's what it is. The picture itself looks pretty nice and is a block-color design that should work well with paint by numbers techniques. The paint is tiny pots of acrylic craft paint--pretty standard for a lot of crafty things the brushes didn't look especially premium, but I don't think anyone really expects professional artist grade brushes in a paint by numbers kit, no matter what the advertisement says. They'll get the job done and include a wider flat brush and two smaller brushes for painting details. You will have to stretch the canvas yourself or at least pin it to a flat sheet of cardboard (and possibly iron it to remove the set it takes from being rolled. It somewhat optimistically includes some hanger hardware so that you can hang it up if you stretch the canvas over a wooden frame. I'd say it's well suited to a young artist starting to branch out into acrylic paints. You'll have a fun craft and if you follow the directions you should end up with a decent painting. That said, as with all paint by numbers, following the directions requires a degree of skill and technique, so don't expect your first attempt at something like this to look just like the picture on the box. I have not done a paint by numbers kit since I was a young kid, so didn't know what to expect from this. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. You get 3 brushes, all the paint, the canvas, and a second paper guide to follow if you can't easily see the numbers on the canvas anymore. Some of the spaces are really tiny to try to paint, but hey, it's ok to not follow the lines exactly, that's what will make it yours. I did find that I had to occasionally do a second thin layer to make sure the numbers and lines were covered and couldn't be seen after the paint dried. Overall, it was a fun kit to do to help pass the time this summer.

I finally finished this project after about 2 weeks. It's a good activity if you like to keep busy while watching tv and or listening to books on tape, but on its own it's a bit tedious. I found that the brushes were not small enough to get the finite detail in the lower part of the canvas and the end result is not something I would want to hang up. My paints all arrived in good condition but I found by the end of it I was very low on certain colors. Some of the smaller areas were not clearly numbered so I sorta just had to guess not that it mattered that much.
