  • Don't mess up
This thing seems sweet, I'm about halfway through the build process. Wood is great quality, all pieces are present, etc. I am now the proud owner of 2 wooden trebuchet kits but I'll only have one trebuchet because I messed up with ONE piece >:( It's not a fault of the maker, which is why I rated 5 stars, but man is this a pain in the butt. I feel the instructions could be a bit clearer as each step has like 4-6 pieces put together in each picture. If you went piece by piece in the instructions this problem might be lessened. ... show more

  • Everyone Wants a Trebuchet - Right?
Style: Four wheels
I bought this as a gift for my 35 year old son - kind of a gag gift. He and some fellow Boy Scouts had built one of these when he was about 12. He said the kit went together well and he enjoyed building it.

  • Kind of fun once its together!
Style: Four wheels
One of the greatest challenges in this model is that, during assembly, many pieces are stacked -- for example, the lower sides are 4 pieces together, which you can see in the picture. Despite the instructions, do not glue these together until they're in their final position. If your alignment is off by a tiny smidge, which is really, really easy to do, they're not going to fit over the tabs on the body later on! It's a whole lot easier to leave them unglued and /then/ glue them as they slide onto the tabs. Some of the slots are insanely tight either way, and you may find yourself using a hobby knife to widen them a little bit. The directions for the final steps of assembly and actually using the thing are utterly non existent, and some other steps are insanely confusing. Once its together, it's a lot of fun to lob little things across the room. :) The counterweight basket is a little small, limiting how much weight you can add, but once you figure out something to put in there.... MUWAHAHAH. ... show more

  • Great present for your buddy's kid
Style: Four wheels
Give it to 10-year-old boy as a birthday present. He loved it his mother not so much. But what do I care, it's not my kid,

  • Needs modifications to work correctly
Style: Four wheels
Overall this kit was a lot of fun to build, up until about two thirds of the way through. Overall it was fairly easy to build, and things fit together snugly except for the "rungs" of the ladders on either side of the main trebuchet. Those pieces are going to need glue to finish off, but don't affect the function of the action. My biggest complaint about the kit is that the provided leather sling for the ammunition is too stiff and too large to fit into the channel down the center of the lower body of the trebuchet. I have another trebuchet model where the sling (the bit the rock/marble/whatever) sits in is made of canvas that is pliable enough to move, stiff enough to hold the ammunition, and also sits in the loading area down the center of the base correctly. In this model, because the sling portion is wide and stiff, and the axle that re-coils the rope sits above the loading area, the sling gets stuck under the bar. Additionally, the grey string didn't hold a knot very well. It also came with white string for the sling, so I'll try that. Overall: - Fun to build for the most part - Only need scissors or a sharp blade (my tiny Swiss Army knife pocket knife was perfect) - Looks nice - Needs to be modified to function correctly - A fun purchase but a little disappointing that it isn't ready-to-fire as soon as you have it built ... show more

  • Grandson and I time
Style: Four wheels
14 YO Grandson and I got in a discussion about ballistae, catapults and trebuchets. Next thing you know we're at the table building this. We modified it here and there to make it what we wanted. Not saying anyone in my yard was throwing kerosene soaked flaming wooden marbles with this thing, but if they were, it was a blast. New core memory for this old man :) ... show more

  • A new level of "cheapness"
Style: Four wheels
Never have I seen one of these wooden 3D "puzzles" manufactured so cheaply that they actually provided toothpicks cut to size! I don't need to buy a kit made out of toothpicks. To save money rather than providing thicker laminate this company chooses to supply nearly paper-thin laminated slices. It's so fragile that it comes apart in your hands. And the parts themselves are so poorly made and thin that nearly every assembly of the unit itself requires that integral parts be strengthened by doubling, tripling, and even quadrupling them together to create some kind of strength for the product. Unless you like throwing money away.....Pass this by! ... show more
