I get it, I'm not saving the environment. We use these every day in my house. We eat almost every meal, snack, and otherwise on these plates. They are solid plates. The coating doesn't allow liquids to soak up into the plate. You can hold one-handed a fairly decent-sized amount of food. The plate will however start to soak up liquid if you use a knife on it. Once you break the coating any grease or water in your food will find its way into the plate. Also aggressively liquid like foods or heavy steam will weaken the plate. Take all of the weaknesses mentioned above with a grain of salt. Again, we use these every day. We even bought bowls, larger plates, and smaller plates for parties.
