I'm sure he will outgrow the shorts before they wear out! They are very reasonably priced and wash and dry like a dream. No ironing needed. My 12 year old grandson loves Dickie brand clothing. These shorts have an adjustable waist band to tighten or let out for more room. They are very durable and worth the money! I also bought 4 pair of Dickie pants that he loves!
