View largerHammer Drill The 1/2-inch hammer drill’s high-power, high-efficiency motor delivers 535 unit watts out for superior performance in light and medium drilling applications. A 1/2-inch ratcheting chuck with carbide inserts provides superior bit- gripping strength—reducing slippage during high-torque applications—thus providing longer tool life. The hammer drill’s patented three-speed (0-600 RPM; 0-1,250 RPM; and 0-2,000 RPM), all-metal transmission allows users to select the appropriate speed for the job at hand and is up to 30 percent faster than current hammer drills on the market. Impact Driver Meanwhile, the impact driver’s robust motor delivers 2,800 RPM—up to 43 percent faster than current impact drivers on the market. Its one-handed loading 1/4-inch hex chuck accepts and holds 1-inch bit tips for convenient fastening in tight spaces. Research shows that impact drivers are growing in popularity largely because of their smaller size and lack of kickback (or reactionary torque) thanks to the impact mechanism within the tool. Combined with its 5.55-inch length and 3.4-pound weight, the premium impact driver packs a serious punch in a small package.Circular Saw The circular saw’s powerful motor (offering 460 max watts out) and ergonomic profile (with lightweight magnesium shoe and optimized handle design) are ideal for professionals tasked with framing, cross cutting, ripping, bevel cutting and plunge cutting. Delivering 3,700 RPM, this saw is 10 percent more powerful than previous DEWALT 6.5-inch cordless circular saws—and combined with its accompanying 3.0 Ah lithium-ion battery, it provides up to 57 percent more runtime compared with other leading 18-volt lithium-ion tools. Its bevel capacity of 0-50 degrees lends itself well to a variety of applications, and a 6.5-inch thin kerf carbide tooth blade provides users with the ability to cut completely through two-by framing lumber at a 45-degree bevel angle.Reciprocating Saw The reciprocating saw is compact and lightweight for access to tight areas (and it helps to reduce user fatigue). The keyless lever-action blade clamp makes for quick and easy blade changes, and the blade reverses for upside-down and flush cutting. Its 1-inch stroke length delivers 0-3,000 SPM for fast cutting. A variable-speed trigger with lock provides increased control, and an electric brake prevents blades from breaking with exiting plunge cuts.LED Work Light The work light comes equipped with additional lumens (110 total) for brighter visibility, delivering bright white LED light that reduces shadows and helps differentiate between colors. (An added bonus: The LED bulb creates less heat than conventional Xenon bulbs.) Its pivoting head rotates 120 degrees with 11 detent positions for a wide range of visibility, and the integrated hanging hook allows for hands-free capability. Users can expect up to 11 hours of light output when paired with the 3.0 Ah 20-volt max lithium-ion battery.Endurance and Ease of Use DEWALT-designed electronics have been built into all of these tools’ switches to provide maximum life by helping to protect them from overheating, overloading, and deep discharge during use. The max 20-volt’s lithium-ion batteries provide up to 35 percent more runtime than existing 18-volt max lithium-ion battery technology, and the included Energy Star-qualified charger has dual voltage capabilities and it is compatible with both 12-volt max and 20-volt max DEWALT lithium-ion batteries. The tools’ slim handles fit easily into users’ hands, increasing the level of comfort during the course of long jobs, and the bright built-in LED work lights above the triggers have a 20-second delay that improves visibility in dimly lit spaces.About DEWALT's 20-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Tools DEWALT’s line of 20-volt max lithium-ion tools features improvements in engineering and design to provide the performance, the ergonomics, and the innovation that contractors require. The new line consists of 11 tools, two lithium ion batteries, and two battery chargers, as well as a number of combo kits. What's in the Box One DEWALT DCK590L2 20-volt max lithium-ion 3.0 Ah five-tool combo kit, including one DCD985 premium hammer drill, one DCF885 1/4-inch impact driver, one DCS393 circular saw, one DCS381 reciprocating saw, one DCL040 LED work light, two 20-volt max 3.0 Ah lithium-ion batteries, one 12-volt max/20-volt max lithium- ion battery charger, one belt hook, one 360-degree side handle, and one contractor bag.DEWALT's 20-volt max DCK590L2 kit also includes the line's impact driver, reciprocating saw, circular saw, and hammer drill. • As good as it gets, for now....
Style: 5-Tool Combo Kit Only
I've owned several cordless kits/tools over the last couple of decades. My needs have changed as I've grown in projects, and my old cheap black and decker sets have long since been replaced by Dewalts. I've had the Dewalt 18V kits for several years and I've been very happy with them. They last through most small jobs with one charge. They are solid, beefy, and have plenty of power, but are also pretty heavy. I nearly converted over to the Li-ion packs, but the price always kept me from it. Then came the 12v max line, I thought they were perfect for nearly every small job and home use. They are light, solid, and have surprising power in a compact size. The charge they hold may not last the entire project, but the packs are so cheap you can buy a couple extra to finish up (and not break your wallet). Well now we have the 20v Max line. To be honest, if I didn't need to buy some new 18v packs, I wouldn't have even considered getting these. But I did, and I'm not disappointed. They all have the same solid, beefy Dewalt design, but now they are light and compact as well. They appear to be nearly as small/compact as the 12v max tools. And these tools hold a charge for much longer than their 12v cousins. (Sorry, I haven't done a comparison test on how long they all last, 12 vs 18 vs 20). The new Impact driver is equal to the 18v version but lighter. Function and size seem nearly the same, but the 20v is slightly smaller and a good bit lighter (the 12v is smaller and lighter then any of them). The hammer drill is the same as the 18v version, but it is lighter as well. Size and function seem to be exactly the same, just lighter. (no 12v hammer drill) The circular saw appears to also be the same as the 18v. Performance seems just the same as the 18v version (good enough for quick cuts in contruction lumber, but I wouldn't want to have to use it for all day jobs or on pressure treated lumber). Charging seems much faster (about 30min or so, but don't hold me to it as I didn't discharge the pack fully). The light is a new design, with just a rotating head, function is fine, but I really liked the old snake head of the previous 18v version better. The new reciprocating saw is the only tool I felt was not on par with the 18v version. It is a much lighter and slightly smaller design, but it no longer has the pivoting head and adjustable guard, and the blade lock is stiffer. Performance wise, it still works just as well as the 18v. After thinking about it, I realized that I never actually used the pivot function on the old 18v anyway, so I suppose I can't complain about the loss of it. But if that is a function you needed for your work, then you will be disappointed. NOTE: I just read the manual and found that this kit has the DCS381 model saw which doesn't have the 4 position blade and adjustable guard. Model DCS380 has the 4 position blade. So if you need that feature don't get this kit. It looks like just the two piece kit Dewalt DCK292L2 and the single saw kit DCS380L1 have the DCS380 model saw with the 4 position blade feature. The bag is the soft bag, which is nice for the lightness, but not nearly as protective. I guess you just have to adapt to it. In summary, I'd recommend this set if you are new or moving up from the inexpensive (and usually low quality) brands. If you're already heavy into the old 18v stuff, I wouldn't bother with a switch until you have to replace them. In all fairness, I have not had much experience with other brands kits (some Milwaulkee, a Bosch, and a Makita) I'm sure they are all great sets, but I was already using Dewalt so I stuck with them. ... show more

  • Fantastic kit - above average home owner
Style: 5-Tool Combo Kit Only
I'll reiterate what most people have said about this kit. It's great and there isn't much for me to complain about. Maybe one gripe I have with this lineup is that they aren't brushless, but in my opinion, the brushless stuff is really only necessary if you use these tools every day for 8-10 hours. For most people, myself included, who use them for car repairs, home repairs, and fun projects the "standard" motors work absolutely fine. I have a total of four DeWalt batteries and two chargers and I can easily work on my projects all day without having to stop. The driver is my favorite tool from this kit. From driving 3" deck screws to taking the oil pan off my truck, it's perfect. Batteries seem to last forever in this thing. The hammer drill is fantastic as well. Really not much to say about it other than it works. Really comfortable to use for long periods. One issue I've had is that sometimes I can't get the chuck tight enough for small bits and I have to constantly retighten it. Not a big deal and it only seems to happen with bits that at 1/8" or smaller. The sawzall is good. It doesn't have a 4 way adjustable blade, but I don't need that feature. Has worked well chopping branches off a tree that fell in my parents back yard. No complaints other than I prefer the compact saws. The circular saw has been great as well. Doesn't have the power of a corded saw, but is plenty to tear through plywood and 2x4's. This one will chew up the batteries a bit faster especially if you have a dull blade or you're cutting dense material. But once again, for your above average home owner, it will be more than enough for any job. The flashlight is a flashlight. I have very bright 1000 lumen tac lights that I normally use, but it's nice to have this one for more of a flood light. Works great, stands up on it's own. I actually use it more than I thought I would, but there are a few other tools I'd rather have in this kit before the flashlight. Overall I love this kit. I plan to use it and abuse it for years. I've been a DeWalt fan for over 20 years as my father has a corded DeWalt drill that continues to run after being dropped off the roof several time, the cord has been cut through twice, and it's driven thousands upon thousands of 3" deck screws. You can go wrong with DeWalt, Makita, or Milwaukee...and you can't go wrong with this kit. ... show more

  • This 20-volt kit is AWESOME; good price on Amazon too!
Style: 5-Tool Combo Kit Only
Got a great deal on this kit from Amazon; it was $50-80 cheaper than anywhere else so I took the plunge and ordered it. What a blessing it has been! After seeing the quality of this set, combined with the light weight lithium batteries (and the extreme durability of those batteries...) a family member of mine went and bought another set just like this one. This 20-volt kit takes everything that was tough and good in the 18-volt DeWalt kits and makes it better. Impact Drill: The impact drill was the perfect tool for building the new deck. It drove those 3" wood screws through those double 2x8's with no issue. And both drills work as long as you have a charged battery, hour after hour. Rotary Saw: I never thought I would use cordless rotary saw because others have been poor performers. But not this one. The 20-volt battery makes this a usable tool; durable, and the saw IS able to cut through 2-by-whatever planks of wood. For large jobs you still need a corded saw, but this saw is a vast improvement over past models. LED Light: I love the LED light too. I keep that in my kitchen and it puts my police-type flashlights to SHAME. I have been using the light for 3 months and the extended-battery has not run down yet, so it has replaced my flashlights and light-bars. Reciprocating Saw: It is afraid of nothing! Roots, tree branches, 4x4 posts, steel pipes, conduit, pvc (..like butter..), you name it. With the right blade, it gets it done. If you need tools that will be functioning LONG after others have quit, then pay more for this brand. It is worth the upgrade from the 18-volt system. The batteries alone are amazing. ... show more
