  • Mechanism and size is slightly different than Ikea Skarsta
I already own (and love) an Ikea Skarsta adjustable-height desk (47 1/4x27 1/2"), and I wanted to purchase another one just like it... However, Ikea's website wasn't letting me do that, even though the item was in stock. Since the size of the Devaise table top happens to be better for me, and it was a little less expensive than the Skarsta, and (most importantly) I needed it right away, I decided to take a chance on the Devaise desk. The Devaise desk, fresh out of the box, had a blemish on the R leg and a slight dent and scratch in the L leg. Both were small and not noticeable unless you look. It was packed well, so I can't explain the dings. The tabletop itself is heavy and arrived in perfect shape. Both the Devaise and Skarsta assembly directions were excellent. The Devaise came with all necessary tools as well as several extra screws in case one were to roll away. At its lowest setting, the Devaise desk is 2-3" higher than the Skarsta desk. (I prefer the lower height range because I'm short, but I will adapt.) The overall appearance of the Devaise desk is very similar to the Ikea Skarsta. I think most people would be very happy with the Devaise desk if it is your first mechanical adjustable desk. Here are the subtle differences that I've noticed so far: Each leg of the Devaise desk (as well as the Ikea Skarsta desk) is comprised of two rectangular tubes that are sleeved together. When you look at one leg, you will see that there is an inner sleeve and an outer one. The outer one moves up and down with the tabletop, and the inner one stays stationary with the feet of the desk. In the case of the Ikea desk, the sleeve that moves is the outer one. That allows you to easily mark a specific point on the inner leg sleeve, and use the mark as a visual aid for putting the desk at a certain perfect height each time. On the Devaise desk, the leg sleeve that moves is the inner one. So while it is definitely still possible to mark certain heights on it, in order to see those marks you will have to bend over and put your head under the desk to look at the very top of the legs as you crank the desk. There are also some important mechanical differences in the way the crank mechanism is built. The mechanism in the Ikea Skarsta desk is much simpler than the Devaise design; the Skarsta mechanism feels very smooth when turning the crank. In the Devaise mechanism, the action of the crankshaft and main turning screw depend on their fit into a tube, as well as the tightness of at least one tiny set screw and two very thin pins. When I raise/lower the Devaise desk, there is a "gritty" feeling in the crankshaft as well as a repepetive noise. My expectation is that the Devaise desk's mechanism is going to wear out or break within a year. However it *does* go up and down just fine, and it feels secure enough for now (first day). Since the Devaise desktop size is a better fit for me than the Skarsta (in this particular space), the differences that I described are all acceptable trade-offs. And like I mentioned, it is literally impossible for me to put it back in the box because I can't lift it on my own... so it has to stay. I will update this review if anything changes. ... show more

  • Sturdy. Ikea quality. I like it
The media could not be loaded. At a little over $100 buck, I decided it was worth the risk. The video shows the crank movement (I'm recording for my sister who was interested) and pictures are at the highest and lowest. I'm 5'8 so I can see someone at 6 feet being OK with the height. As you can see, it doesn't wobble too bad lifting and dropping. I am on carpet so that probably helps with shock absorption. Wide enough for my 3 screen setup. I set it up alone which was a little tricky. But I'm an ikea pro so I got it up and moving in 30 minutes. I'd say it's the quality of mid to high end Ikea furniture. I've only had it for 2 weeks so let's see how it performs in time. ... show more

  • Beautiful, spacious desk for a good price
Delivered about two weeks after purchase which wasn’t terrible to wait, but after I got it together I wished I ordered it earlier! Assembled myself - which I do not recommend, but eventually got it done. Screw holes were a little off and one screw just isn’t lined up properly, but even without it, such a sturdy desk! Smooth raising and lowering. BIG desk but fits into my studio apartment nicely. Pictured I have a 27” display with keyboard, mouse, and a 15” laptop with plenty of space left over! ... show more

  • Easy to put together, good value for the money!
The media could not be loaded. I was looking for a stand up desk that was sturdy but affordable. This one was met all of my expectations except I wish it came with wheels. The floor is protected by round plastic discs that are screwed in and can be adjusted to level the table. I’m planning to see if I can busy aftermarket casters to make the table mobile. The instructions are easy to follow. They say to mount the table top to the legs while leaving the table top on the floor, putting in the screws then flipping it over. Instead I left the legs standing upright and placed the tabletop on top then crouched under and put the screws in. I think it was easier this way since it was too heavy for my kids to help me flip this over to stand upright. Seems very sturdy and looks modern! I bought it for me, but my kids wanted to use it and there’s enough space for them to do homework on opposite sides of the table without them bumping into each other. The lever to move it up & down isn’t as smooth, but still seems like it’s sturdy. The handle can be shoved in so it’s less obtrusive, but you need to remember to slide it out before cranking the lever or it will get caught on the table. (See profile pictures) ... show more

  • 4 for products, 1 for packing, 5 for customer service and money value
Assemble: I ordered 3 of this desks. I hate assembling, so I hired assemble service from Amazon. It turned out assemble did not look that complicated, but desk is heavy and long, so it looked make sense to have more than one person to assemble. Stability: wobbly side way, but holds well and can use without noticing. Packing!!!: The company needs to think how to pack better.....as many reviewer shows the picture, mine also chipped on corner. Out of 3 tables 2 has damaged corner. I use white masking tape to cover the patch...since this is more for personal use. And big trouble! 1 of the desk-handle was broken and Parts E was missing...we got empty plastic bag says E but nothing in it. Assembly service person could not finish job and I could not use table till parts arrive.....I contacted company right away. They responded me very quick, but parts took one week to arrive. I can live with corner damage since the price is reasonable, but missing part and broken handle was big down point. Seller( customer service): exceptionally good. I emailed him about parts on Saturday, and he responded email same day and give me email Sunday again to make sure which parts I needed. I was so frustrated about parts, so every 2 days I gave him email to check the status of parts, and he was super nice to response every single my email within 12 hours! Yes....parts was sent from China, so it took one week to come. ... show more
