    • A professional unit all around, and sounds it!
I've had this for about a week now and that's because it does take a little time to set up and get used to the rather daunting array of controls, in no small part because many of the controls serve similar or different purposes for different media...and this unit handles just about ALL digital media producing music (no MP4, but neither does any of its competition). However, I found quickly that after reading the instructions once that it was very logically laid out and I could quickly figure out which controls I needed to do what and use them effectively, including on the remote (battery included). I wanted this for a setup in the master bedroom that I could quietly listen to quality music output on without disturbing my wife, so I teamed this up with a spare Sansui AU-9900 integrated amp and my Heil Air Motion Transformer full range headphones, which must be driven from the speaker outputs but are one of the finest headphones ever made period (there is no headphone jack at all on the DN-300Z, but your amp will have one if you're using conventional headphones). I'm using no loudspeakers at all and don't need them. I've had a Denon CD player almost since they came out in the early 1980's and it's still running strong and sounding terrific, so I expect the same from this professional quality unit. The Bluetooth is also excellent and in fact what I probably use the most at this early point, though I also have found the USB input to work well. I'll probably never use the SD slot, but it's there if I need it. I expected the radio to be poor, particularly due to the focus on digital input and output and the total lack of specs on them, but I've found that with a decent (ANTV) amplified antenna, I get plenty of stations crystal clear here in the Annapolis, MD area with the antenna oriented towards Baltimore. That Denon gets all this functionality into a 1u unit is amazing! Also pleasing is that except for the rack mounts, the width is the same as the amp, so it's visually appealing to my wife, too. As a last remark, this was shipped from the Village Music Shop in New York, and came very quickly after I ordered it, in a well packed, undamaged box inside a snug shipping crate.
