  • Works well
This is a well made tool. It's a solid construction and works fairly well straightening deck boards. I switched back and forth using this tool and the original deck straightening tool constructed with square tubing and I founded the one with the square tubing gave me more leverage because the handle was longer but by the end of the deck build, the tubing was slightly bent. If the handle on this tool was slightly longer, it would be perfect. ... show more

  • Better than "As Seen On TV"
Over my lifetime of doing decking/redecking with 5/4" PT boards for myself, friends, and family the WORST is dealing with bowed decking boards. They can be arrow-straight at the lumberyard and bow curved by the time you get them home, so you need to be able to handle them. I've used the combination of spacers and spreaders and/or pipe clamps to beat these boards into submission - all of these solutions are labor intensive and you never have the proper sized spreader/clamps so you need to do more than one board, etc. For smaller amounts of bow, a pry-bar also works, but if you are using any edge screw systems, then you are down one hand, and you kinda need that hand. Then I was watching a video of this rather petite contractor, with no help, using a tool exactly like this. As it 'locks' into place, your hands are free. As with any convenience item, this has a couple of side effects. One is that the two stainless steel cross-hatched pins dig into the joist, and will dent it (not a big deal). This will not harm your joist tape, as nothing is digging into the top of the joist. The black hockey-puck shaped part is a hard nylon (initially thought it was aluminum), and that can then press/indent into softer woods like the pine I am using depending how much pressure is needed to straighten the bow. Use a scrap of wood, like an inch or so wide ripped 5/4 that can span three joists that you can place between the tool and the real deck board makes this a non-issue, just keep it long and across a couple of joists to prevent it from falling or flying away if the pressure causes it to 'fold up'. Build quality is excellent. As a DIYer, it is not that I will need this tool every day, but even if I did I think this would last. ... show more

  • Awesome
This thing is awesome, only problem is you need to start from the right as the way this works you can’t push that one end. Other than that this thing flat out works with minimal effort and has cut labor time in half compared to traditional methods for pushing deck boards tight. This is half the price as the one I see at my local builder supply store. ... show more

  • Great tool
As a contractor who’s seen it all when it comes to building sturdy decks and ramps, I can tell you this deck installation tool is a game-changer. Crafted with a robust 8mm thick steel plate, this beast is built to endure the toughest jobs. Whether you're laying down new decks or making critical repairs, this tool won't let you down. The grips are where this tool really shines. Made of stainless steel with an embossed surface, they provide an ironclad hold on your wood frames, eliminating any slip-ups and boosting your efficiency on the job. You’re getting precision with every move, ensuring those 2x4-inch structures are aligned with professional accuracy. What about handling and operation? The ergonomic design is spot-on. It's got a lightweight build that doesn't skimp on durability. The comfortable blue grip handle is a nice touch, making it easy to wield for hours without fatigue. Plus, it’s compact enough to toss in your toolkit without second thought. And let’s not overlook the nylon roller—this isn’t your average component. It’s crafted from top-tier polyamide, offering a smooth roll while protecting your deck boards from any scrapes or damage during straightening. Bottom line: if you're serious about decking and need a tool that’s as tough as you are, this is your new best friend. It simplifies the job, cuts down on labor time, and holds up under any conditions. For any contractor out there looking to step up their game, this tool is a solid investment. ... show more
