I purchased this snowboard bag as a spare bag to put my extra boards in. I already have a padded DaKine travel snowboard bag with wheels that I travel with and have had for over 20 years, so this is just a spare bag to hold extra snowboards and maybe to travel locally with. I have 3 snowboards in it now (only 1 board has bindings attached) and no issues with the weight when I take it in and out of the closet. It seems very durable and well-constructed and the bag itself doesn't add much weight to the equation. I'm very happy with the purchase given the price, and I trust that DaKine bags are very well constructed. As for traveling on a plane with this bag, since it's not padded at all, I think I would feel comfortable traveling with just a old board and bindings and maybe boots. ... show more

    • Great bag for flying
I purchased this bag specifically for a recent trip to Colorado. I needed a bag that would survive airport baggage handling and keep my board from being damaged. This bag did not disappoint. I considered the fully padded version but decided to go with the Freestyle which is only "padded" on the bottom. The padding is really just a thick tarp but it served its purpose. To give my board a bit of extra protection, I wrapped the ends with thick packing foam and put my ski pants and a couple of sweatshirts underneath the board. With all of this, my 156cm board fit very snugly (in terms of length) in the 164 bag. I was able to put my boots and helmet on top of the board but zipping the bag up took a bit of effort. My bag was checked by TSA and even so I had no trouble with the strap breaking, the bag ripping, zippers malfunctioning, etc. The bag looks as good as it did out of the box. Took this round-trip Chicago->Denver. Top material is thinner than the other reviews led me to believe. Both my bag and my friend's identical one came back with at least one 1" tear in them from transit by the end of the trip. Overall, I suspect this held up better than cheaper models. Feels sturdy and durable. Good graphics. Small price to pay to protect your investment. My son has a 155 cm board and I bought the 167. The extra room is nice to add some last minute gear.
