Description

The ritual cannot be stopped, but the cultists’ plans might still be! The cultists have been painstakingly preparing for this moment for quite some time. An elder God, a being adrift in a different dimension, has reached out into their minds, giving them the knowledge necessary to awaken it, and bring it into our own world, unleashing its hellish powers on the unsuspecting populace. The investigators found out about it too late. The final ritual has begun. But with a little luck, The God might just be vulnerable for a moment after being summoned. That's when they can shoot it in the face. Cthulhu: Death may die puts players in charge of investigators looking to defeat an elder God that is being summoned to earth. They are running late, as the summoning ritual is already underway. But if they can collect enough clues to find a weakness, or alter the ritual just enough to cause one, They can blast the God to death Before it gets a true Foothold in the world. Working together, players will fight cultists, search for answers, and try to keep their already-broken minds from warping even further.

  • 6 Stars out of 5. Incredible, Amazing Game - but it's not easy.
First, here's a Pro Tip: take a photo of the way they have all the items packed into your box before you remove anything, because it's almost like expert level Tetris getting everything back in the box without a photo. It takes about an hour and a half to play a game, but at least half an hour to box everything back up. Second, everything they did on this game exceeds expectations. The artwork is awesome. The figurines that come with it are themselves awesome. You get a large Cthulhu, Star Spawn, 2 Fire Vampires, a large Hastur, cultists, 12 investigators, and so many things in all, like maybe 30 things [edit: 45!]. The Episodes give you a different map layout with different monsters and objectives so you can combine both of the big monsters (Cthulhu, Hastur) with each of the 6 episodes for 12 different game scenarios. Third, be forewarned that the game is hard. The rules are complex. The general feel of the game is also pretty dark but hilarious at the same time, because you get stronger by losing more and more sanity, and if you don't defeat the Old Ones in time you go completely insane. I think the game mechanics are tilted so that the Old Ones have an advantage. It's hard to defeat them. Fourth, if you are looking for a family game, this one is perfect (if your family is a little nuts) because all the players work together. You win or lose as a group, there are no individual winners. The investigators each have unique skills, and if you have a younger player, they might want to use Rasputin, who can die 3 times before the final death gets him. This game is a little expensive but once you open it up you'll wonder how they made a profit. It really is a work of love putting this game out in the world. It's a must for any fans of the HP Lovecraft stories or table top games in general. ... show more

  • Fantastic Game! 10/10
Fantastic Game! My wife and I have been buying a lot of board games since the pandemic. As we can both be very competitive, we’ve found Co-op games best suit us. They both, get us off our phones to spend quality time, and make us have engaging dialogue on how to complete each episode with brainstorming and problem solving. I was a bit nervous purchasing the game because it’s a bit more complex than other games in our collection. After 2 games, we had the rules down and figured out how to choose characters that best fit the scenario and each others character selection. The art in this game is fantastic, the detail in each character, miniature, the box, it’s all top notch. Beyond that, the game comes with 6 playable episodes that are all unique and independent from the others along with 2 possible “Bosses” that can be used in any of the episodes making for 12 possible games. It’s very neat how the designer used the same mechanics in each episode with a different narrative and setting for each. Replay value is high. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the playable characters in the game are incredibly diverse. Many different races and equal male and female representation. This is a big deal to my wife and I as a lot of games like this usually just have white dudes to play as. The inclusion in this game just elevates the play experience for us. ... show more

  • If you like Cthulhu...
If you have any interest at all in the Cthulhu Mythos, this game is for you! It's a blast to play (if you don't mind dying) and there are REAL risks to complete the mission before the Elder God is summoned and kills you all! The first time we set it up to play we were underway within minutes. After an hour, everything was on fire and we were struggling to survive at every turn. We managed to win by the skin of our teeth, but we EARNED it, so it felt like an accomplishment. The figures look GREAT! Especially if you like painting miniatures (I do). in truth, I bought it just for the minis (to use in Call of Cthulhu) and was pleasantly surprised how good the game was. Definite Recommend! We've played it several times since we bought it and are almost through all of the content in the box and begging for more. Different mixes of characters (they all have different abilities and uses) can make or break the mission and it's a lot of fun just to decide which 4 of the 10 characters have the best chance of completion. Every choice you make matters, which is why the game is fun. ... show more

  • One of the most evolved board games of this golden era.
Countless others go on at length with a profusion of complimentary remarks (each of them warranted), so I will keep this short and sweet. I have played dozens of co-op games, and plenty of Lovecraft-themed ones. "Cthulhu: Death May Die" has the complexity that hard-core gamers will want, the ease of play neophytes may need, and mechanics culled from the best examples of the craft. Think: 2nd Edition "Arkham Horror" meets the new "Hellboy" board game--that kind of feel. Looks beautiful, runs smoothly, and, importantly for an OCD fellow like myself, the thing packs back into its original container with ease. A+, Must Buy, Worth It! -Giles E. What a great game! Beautiful components, interesting game mechanics and an easy to understand rule book. With six scenarios, to elder gods and 10 investigators, there is unlimited replayability. Highly recommended.

  • Great Game for the Cthulhu Mythos fan!
This is a great co-op game where it’ll take you and/or your teammates to make important choices in order for you to survive against Cthulhu or Hastur (you get to choose a boss for all scenarios).

  • Only played for an hour so far...
The Box was a little overwhelming when I opened it, there are layers of miniatures and hidden spots for tokens in the miniature containers. You’ll have to arrange the tiles after all the pieces are popped out of the cardboard. There’s so much content in the box, honestly if the game looks interesting to you and have two hours to play a full game after a 30 minute first set up because of all the tokens and things, get the game. Amazing. ... show more
