  • It works!!!
I took quite some time looking for a pellet stove cleaner and this one works very well!!! I am a first time pellet stove user and after 1 year my stove pipe started billowing black smoke, soot and tar were literally dripping out of the top of my pellet stove pipe. I was freaked out to say the least as it was still mid winter. I searched for something to help loosen and clean out this soot. First I got a chimney sweeping device that attached to my drill and cleaned out the pipe for an immediate step. After the pellets arrived I followed the instructions and let them burn through as described. After this I went back and re swept the stove pipe. I was amazed with how much extra soot easily brushed off of the inside of the stove pipe and surfaces. The most impressive thing and convincing evidence that this stuff works was when I went to clean the glass of the door window, the tar and soot literally wiped right off with a damp towel. Prior to this I had to use a special chemical cleaner designed to clean this glass and even that was not as easy. It required wearing gloves, working the compound onto the glass and rubbing off the tar. So long story short, it works, it’s easy to use and will make my pellet stove safer as it does not allow tar to stick as easily to the interior surfaces. I will be using this very regularly as my stove is use over winter and to help seasonal cleaning much easier and more effective! ... show more

  • CSL pellet stove cleaner works great
Had great results with the CSL pellet stove cleaner. We have a Harmon pellet stove with the automatic thermostat that keeps the temperature within one degree of where it is set. The drawback to this system is that this causes the stove to frequently cycle on and off, never really getting good and hot for any length of time. After using the stove in this way for two seasons, we had a significant creosote build up even with regular cleaning. This week, per the instructions on the box, I mixed half the box into a hopper of pellets. I then burned the stove on high all day long. After a couple of hours, I noticed a significant difference in the appearance of the fire box. At the end of the day, after everything had cooled, I opened everything up, and found everything to be almost spotless. The CSL pellets had turned the creosote build up into ash. The little bit of ash that remained in the firebox was easily brushed off with a paint brush, and the vent pipe was spotless. Of course, how much of these results were due to the CSL pellets, and how much is attributable to just burning the stove on high for nine hours — who knows. But the stove looks practically brand new again, so I will probably use these once or twice a year. ... show more

  • Does what it is supposed to do. I like it.
I believe there is a misconception as to what this product is supposed to do. What it does do is make it much easier to clean your pellet stove. For those who may have hoped the use of this product will negate cleaning the window, burn basket, and chimney, you will be disappointed. After taking out the ashes and cleaning the burn basket every couple of days, I place a small handful of the CSL pellets in the burn basket prior to starting up the stove. With that, all cleanings have been so much easier. The door window literally wipes off with a wet paper towel. ... show more

  • Didn't notice anything
It's hard to tell if it has done anything. Seems like a smaller qty of pellets for a lot more money. I see no difference in amount of creosote in the burn pot or chimney and I have been burning pellets for almost 20 years. Guess I'm good for another 20!

  • Good for those crevices I can’t get to
So I add a handful directly to the burner cup every time I fill the hopper up. Seems that it burns hotter and is doing something. There are some crevices in my pellet stove I can not clean so this is a good alternative. Probably would only get one a year and only use a little at a time.

  • CSL make a good product
I have CSL products on a traditional chimney and pleased to see they make a product for pellet stoves as well. Based on their recommendations for use, could get a little pricey using every week.

  • Probably works good in smaller burner
I have a large maxim 250 by central bioler. I got a bad brand of pellets from menards and the creosote was terrible. I have been burning pellets from menards since 2010 and never had this amount of creosote build up. So i tried these pellets right in the burn pot once every couple of days after a good cleaning and i think it improved it but i would need a larger amount for my purpose. So for the money i bought the anti creosote powder and put a couple of tablespoons in every couple of days and it cut back the creosote to a manageable level until i burned through the bad pellets. ... show more
