I don't have to use mats often since I have the Cricut that can use the smart materials, but I started off only purchasing the super long mats thinking it would be better to have those and I would not need both. Honestly you don't need both, but if you don't want to hate your life while you are creating smaller designs I would just bite the fairly small bullet and get these. These make your life so much easier, and they are fairly inexpensive too. They are really easy to clean and hold up super well through cuts.
